that would sure take some of the guilt off of me for not being able to donate blood anymore

you shouldn't feel guilt. the restrictions are laughable. The U.S. is so hysterically afraid of Avian Flu and mad cow disease that you can't donate if you've visited any of these countries, blah, blah. In england, you're restricted from donating blood if you've spent a significant amount of time in America, because they think everyone here has AIDS and Hepatitis. Basically how we treat Africa.

the blood donation center knows every vacation Steve & I have ever been on (he had to promise them we only stayed inside Panama City when we went there or he wouldn't have been able to donate - which of course, was a lie, we didn't just stay in the city). They still shift uncomfortably every time I mention I spent 2 weeks in England *10 YEARS AGO.* Add to that my low blood Iron levels - they turn me away more than they allow me to give. Steve and I are both O+ anyway so big whoop.
