Grindelwald decides to mercy kill Credence before he makes another DC movie

*snort*

Heh. :-)

But hey! I like my DC! Justice League wasn't *that* bad ...

The UK Guardian recently had to retract, after they commented that Miller and Depp's 'alleged violence' was 'small beer' next to Rowling's 'gender critical feminism'.

Oh, that was interesting. I went and found the Guardian article ... and then the original, via the Wayback Machine (isn't the internet wonderful?). Was there that big a fuss over the original 'small beer' thing? Seemed pretty innocuous to me. When will organisations learn to ignore the noisy micro-minority lynch mob who are on permanent search for imagined offence?

I still haven't watched the second movie ... tried a couple of times, kept losing interest. More due to the 'fool me twice' vow I made after the original series to anything new written by Rowling.

I haven't even watched the last HP movie, let alone any prequels. I am done giving money to this woman. (I'm glad my family got most of the books and movies 2nd hand.)

We already saw how many inconsistencies and plot holes she created simply by not rereading her own books. I'm not interested in her attempts to patch them up. I prefer reading what people posting here have to say, with much better grounding both in the books and in history and folklore.

Re: gender issues: As our analysis here on this board of her writing of the female characters in her world shows, she has issues with femininity, probably quite a bit of internalized misogyny. I'm not surprised it comes out as trans-misogyny. (I wouldn't mind a fanfic where a transgender student successfully manages Hogwarts.)

Hello there! Nice to see you again!

Well, I guess it was worth seeing the last movie (Deathly Hallows 2) at the time, given as how I was still immersed in the fandom. The movies were useful in that the contrast between them and the books served to illustrate the many flaws in the latter. By the time they got to the 'final battle' there was a huge divergence between Rowling's words and what the film producers thought would fly on the big screen.

But you have me now wishing I'd somehow snuck into the theatre for free ... :-)

As our analysis here on this board of her writing of the female characters in her world shows, she has issues with femininity, probably quite a bit of internalized misogyny.Hmmm. I think I'd need to re-read the observations here before being convinced that Rowling has/had 'internalised misogyny'; the books didn't show any misogyny IMO; women seemed to be equally represented. And the hero of the books, ( ... )

The internalized misogyny shows up in what look and behavior of female characters is considered good and what is considered bad. That negative female characters are either 'too feminine' (eg the exaggerated use of pink by Umbridge) or 'manly' (eg the physical description of Rita Skeeter). And male villains are feminized (eg Voldie's voice is 'high' for some reason; also some essays about how Severus Snape fits the stereotype of fairy tale evil witch). A good female character has to be just the 'right' amount of feminine - which is why it is important that Ginny doesn't cry, or that Hermione only pretties up for the Yule Ball, and maybe the wedding, but makes a point of not paying much attention to her hair otherwise.

Also, that interview comment about Lily's behavior in Snape's Worst Memory, the one about 'you know how we are' (or was it 'what we are'?) - apparently all women are flirts using their feminine wiles to get their ways with men, no other way of interacting in the world.

I have no interest in watching the Fantastic Beasts.
It feels like they are ignoring the things JKR was good at - the fun fantasy, throwing new magical things. Instead they are focusing on what she is bad at - consistent world building, understanding people's motivations.
