How could Cadogan have been a Gryffindor and of Merlin's times? Maybe Merlin really was a Slytherin in the Potterverse, and King Arthur was several centuries later than in our universe.
I dunno. She really seems to like the "one-man army" idea, though--Sir Cadogan displays the height of courage because he faces down the dragon single-handedly, even though he only wins because of luck.... Actually, it's almost exactly the same as the way Harry goes to face down Voldemort alone because he thinks he's magically protected.
Obviously, Aunt Marge's belief in corporal punishment is quite different from Arthur's. George relates how Fred swore his left buttock was never the same after the twins tried to make Ron take an Unbreakable Vow. Annoying as the twins are, they could only have been about six at this time, and couldn't have fully appreciated what they were doing. Still, giving them a good (and hilarious as described) beating was obviously far more effective than explaining things to them, as their future behaviour demonstrates. Oh, wait.
If Colonel Fubster is so appalled by Marge, why does he look after her dogs?
Maybe he's a kind dog-lover who wants to do what's best for the dogs? We can hope for something like that, right? Since JKR will probably never bother to disillusion us.
For some reason I cannot look at the new chapters at Pottermore. I deleted my browser history and even tried a different browser, but the "Explore this chapter" utton just isn't there. Anybody have any tips or tricks since the site itself is useless.
You can't opened the POA if you haven't collected the second year's books list and bought all the books on it. It makes zero sense because you can finish the second year without the list / books for it, but you need them for the third year.
Thanks for the help. This seems really stupid and pointless. And the new chapters are even more broken than the previous ones, unless I use Internet Explorer.
From the wikipedia page on 'Bus': Horse drawn buses were used from the 1820s, followed by steam buses in the 1830s, and electric trolleybuses in 1882. The first buses powered by internal combustion engines were used in 1895[citation needed] and this is still the most common power source.
So if the Knight Bus is from 1865, it must have originally been modeled after one of these. Who knows when the current model was introduced.
Cadogan's wand had troll whiskers for a core???
Kettleburn was a Hufflepuff, but was as dangerous to the students as a Gryffindor. I bet his Fire crabs were among the ancestors of Hagrid's Skrewts. And yet another wand with a core from a phoenix ther than Fawkes. (Like one Ollivander had in his store).
So one of Remus' ancestors had a talent for Boggart-hunting? If Boggart isn't a living creature, then it's ability to mentally paralyze with fright is neither a defense mechanism nor a predation technique. Just some pointless accident of magic, I suppose. Like poltergeists and the more sinister Dementors,
( ... )
I don't think that "troll whiskers" wand core was ever mentioned before. And it's a bit strange too. We were never told that trolls are especially "magical" or anything like that. Only that they are used as brute guards.
Considering how "brave" Kettleburn was I was expecting him to be a Gryffindor too.
Just checked at the relevant Lexicon page: In the past (WOMBAT3) Rowling had Faris Spavin as Minister from 1865 to 1903 (impressively long career! - must have been a great quiet time). So she chose a year she already had in her notes, just to have a Minister by a different name. Annoying. Maybe starting the Knight Bus was one of the last things McPhail did while in office.

I'm not even going to try and guess what JKR was attempting to do with this.
