Room 313 | Tuesday Afternoon

Jul 05, 2011 09:15

Radio was a useful tool sometimes, offering warnings and reminding Nico that sometimes things didn't turn out as expected. Which was why he'd given his roommate just a little bit of space until he spotted him in class and well, people could say what they wanted about Nico, but he was no coward ( Read more... )

Luke came in at some point in the afternoon after a session in the salle, Backbiter in tow. He barely spared Nico a glance at first but he was well aware that he was in the room. Luke had been grateful that he had been given space over the last few days but the time spent away from his cousin didn't make Luke forget just how pissed he was.

He didn't say anything at first when he came in, just put his sword aside and started shucking off his practice armor. He was trying to decide if ignoring his cousin was the way to go or if punching him in the face like he wanted to was a good idea.

"He said he thought I was 'better than the Luke he knew'," he said in a high-pitched mocking tone. "He wouldn't listen to one fucking word I was saying, of course."

Yeah, sure sounded like a test. "Oh come on, it's not like you killed your world's Percy!"

He might need to think on that.

"...Right?"

Luke shook his head. "I was supposed to but I let him go."

Or knocked him unconscious. Whichever.

"Did you tell him that?" Nico was betting not based on what he knew about arguments with other demigods. "Or did you guys just yell at each other?"

"Of course I told him that," Luke said, barely keeping himself from adding 'you idiot' to the end of that sentence. "I told you, he wouldn't listen to a thing I said."

Luke looked down at the mess on the floor and wondered which tooth Nico broke. "Whatever, he's an idiot. He told me not to speak to him again and that we never had anything together and that's fine with me. He can go off to his own universe and let the other version of me gut him for all I care."

That wasn't true in the least but Luke was forcing himself to believe it and gods help Nico if he tried to suggest Luke thought otherwise.

Right, like they weren't both just pissed off and broken hearted. And apparently using Nico as their punching bag.

"He is an idiot," Nico agreed. "And I'm sure you'd like to gut him yourself. Which is why you saved that little Percy. Makes sense now."

Go ahead, hit him again, Luke, you know you wanna.

"I saved that kid when I was stupid enough to believe that maybe Percy would make an attempt at listening to my side of things," Luke said, glaring at Nico. "I'm gonna have to kill that kid version of Percy eventually and if you still want to help me out you're gonna have to accept that and do your part to help."

"I know," he nodded, having already accepted this part. "It's something I was thinking about a lot while you were gone, but I believe in what I'm doing."

It helped that Jason had seemed to back him up no matter what he did, so long as he thought he was doing the right thing.

"You might think differently once you go on board the Princess Andromeda," Luke said. He didn't bother to explain the boat since he was just going to assume Nico knew everything now. "We keep mortals on there for food, you know."

Luke wasn't exactly proud of that fact, but he wanted to make very sure Nico knew what he was getting into.

"Yeah, I heard about that." Somehow he was less concerned about that than other things, which was kind of creepy, in a way. But then, Nico was a creeper. "Think the monsters will take issue with you bringing me along? They may smell the Underworld on me."

"Nah, I raised so much stuff up from the Underworld lately I'm sure I was covered in that smell from time to time. There's already plenty of demigods on board and more coming every day," Luke said with a wave of his hand. "I'm more concerned about someone recognizing you. You don't realize how fast time moves there. Hades is gonna get my version of you out of the Lotus Casino soon enough."

"Yeah, but I bet Percy never mentioned how he didn't tell anyone who I was for a long time after that. They just thought I was a runaway demigod, too good for their camp." Which he had been, since there hadn't been a place for him there back then. Luke changed that. "Most people are too uncomfortable to look my way anyhow."

Luke thought about that for a moment before nodding. "The monsters won't ask questions. The demigods might ask about your parentage but I suppose you could pass yourself off as a child of Nemesis or Nyx or some other minor god."

"So when do you go back?" Nico had to ask. Would he have time to heal his face? "Or is uh, he gonna call you?"

"Shouldn't be for a while," Luke said, looking kind of relieved about that. "Which is good. The less time spent on that ship, the better."

Oh, Luke. Don't say that to the person you're gonna ask to run that thing in the near future.

Luke looked down at the floor again. "Sorry about your tooth."
