I need to condense the 3900 words of my dissertation I somehow wrote into 2000, combining both structure and arguement (i.e. lots of examples). HELP.

Do you always plan your essays you before you write them or are you a more spontaneous type?

i usually read a lot (typing up notes as i go along), plan a little, write and then revise the plan accordingly.

with this particular essay (which is meant to be a close analysis, no secondary material required) i didn't plan ahead... i just can't seem to with close readings? the best ideas only come to me as i'm writing the analysis, generally. which leads to my problem now.
