Summary: There’s something strangely comforting about sleeping next to someone.

There’s something strangely comforting about sleeping next to someone. There’s no need for them to have this arrangement, but when they wake up in the middle of the night or the early hours of the morning, thrashing about, sweating, unable to breathe, it soothes them to feel the presence of another person beside them. The slow, steady breathing perforating the silent night is calming, a balm to the terror they have awoken from; the gentle rhythm lulls them back into a sense of security, and eventually to slumber. And the knowledge that there is someone who they can turn to in their hour of need is what gives them the courage to face their demons each night.
