The project should involve technologies that you know really well. You have no time to learn new APIs or methods.
The project should have a very limited scope, and be something that you can (hopefully) do a much better job of than everyone else.
The project should be started as soon as you finish the exams, and you should work your butt off until the start of term to get as much done as possible.
You should also be sure that any potential supervisor is around frequently and open to talking to you for at least half an hour a week.
Pick a supervisor then a project would be my only advice. My choice out of them lot would be A robot programming language for children it sounds the most fun to me but the supervisor is more important than the project.
Dunno what any of the potential supervisors are like as supervisors. Mark Ryan was a much nicer guy as a Project Supervisor/Security Lecturer then as a Java Lecturer.
