Hello, I come bearing fanfiction! It's not necessarily for Christmas or the holidays in general, but was written for
grindeldore_100's prompt Salt.
like salt - Ariana, imlied Albus/Gellert - PG - Dark - 295 words
Ariana always thought Gellert Grindelwald was like salt.
[ETA: Now you can read the sequel to this fic, called
salt like murder.]
like salt
Ariana remembers seeing Gellert for the first time, and remembers thinking that he was like salt. He always smiled and gave a nod in her direction (as he did most days he saw her before going up to Albus's room for hours on end), but she always saw him as salt. Salt on the tongue, especially. He looked nice and sweet (like sugar) but when you really got to know him, really got to hear the things he said in front of you because he thought you didn't understand, you tasted the bitterness and cringed.
Ariana remembers thinking of Gellert as white salt in the hourglass, gnawing away at time before her brother fell completely to him. Albus had never been one to love her especially, that was mostly Aberforth, but ever since Gellert came along he completely disregarded her. Ariana thought it was only a matter of time, she screamed it's only a matter of time, before Albus's eyes rolled into the back of his head and he was crazy like she, but unlike her that he was completely controlled by someone of this world, and he could stop it. Ariana wondered if Albus liked the taste of salt.
Ariana remembers seeing Gellert for the last time, remembers seeing the flash of his eyes like lightning before she fell. She remembers hearing words that she didn't understand, a wand pointed in the wrong direction, and felt startled, cold, shocked as if the lightning in his eyes had struck her (she thinks it had, but it was green). She thought she could taste salt (blood?) in her mouth, melting on her tongue inside her ice-cold body. Albus yelled, and pushed Gellert aside. Yes, Gellert was salt, because he made everything taste awful.
