YOU GUYS I AM LOL'ING SO HARD I'M GOING TO COME OUT OF LJ RETIREMENT AND BREAK THE LOCKED POST RULE JUST FOR THIS EXCITEMENT.
LOOKIT, House of the Rising Sun. So some dumb bunny on Tumblr entered an AO3-based case fic challenge and thought the way to do these things is to rip off my work. In the same fandom even. In the same SPN case fic category

But for real, what is this dumbfuckery? Just write your own thing. How can you drag this crap into a challenge, get some unsuspecting artist spend time and effort on you, and then what, feel proud for ~creating something? In the same fandom and category even?
LJ is hard to quit :D It's been a bit too empty here, sadly. But hard to quit!

also, props to the girl for owning up to plagiarizing and not trying to excuse her behavior. i don't think everyone would do that.

That's what I think, too. I want her to keep writing and be a good writer some day and remember this as one of her big learning moments. Good for her.

After doing a little poking around, I realized I've seen that little tumblr user here and there. What a shame. But better she learn now, in a way that won't get her in legit trouble. Makes one wonder how many of her other fics are equally 'borrowed'. (She's back up on AO3 as pinupdean. I sure hope this is the only instance of blatant plagiarism.) What was her rationale? Did she just run out of time? Felt too much pressure to perform?

Uuuugh. She said she had no excuses to offer, which I'm okay with. I don't actually want to hear excuses. I think when I was a teen, I'd copy something, then my own whole story would start growing around it, so I imagine it was something like that, but ugh. I didn't get a sense that this was some malicious serial plagiariser, and I should hope that, since restoring her AO3, she'd think carefully about where her ~inspiration for each story came from. I'm trying to be graceful toward stupid kids, but I'm still really pissed.
