The Jack Harkness who enters the Nexus this particular evening looks like he's seen better days, to be honest. It's a combination of stress and very little sleep, which might be inferred by the dark circles under his eyes and the venti cup of Starbucks in his hand, combined with the lackluster way he settles back onto one of the Convenient Nexus ( Read more... )

"A good book, or an entertaining argument," Aion says. "Or a fight."

"I think I've had one too many of those, to be honest," Jack answers, laughing a little. It's a tired laugh, though. "I'm, uh, a better lover than a fighter? So maybe a romance novel ... "

"I'm rather the reverse, I'm afraid," Aion said with a slight smile. "A romance novel, or anything else that's distracting is good."

"I think, given the modern romance novel, I might be distracted laughing too hard at the descriptions of things." Which, his grin says, wouldn't be a bad thing.

"Heeey Jack!"

Well, for someone who's stressed and exhausted the sudden appearance of John might not be all that welcoming.

He giggles at the question and gives Jack a wink. "I think you know my answer to that better than I do!"

He looks closely at Jack for a moment trying to place which one this is...

"Oh! Hey, I'm still trying to get the group together...but I swear! The Hub will be the centre of musical activity once I do!"

Jack gives John a jaunty little salute. "Got a pretty good idea what you go for for stress relief," he answers, laughing a little.

When John figures out which of the many Jacks it is, he grins. "Let me know when you do. Karaoke Night won't be the same."

John giggles some more. "Shall I help you out with it then?" Can't blame a guy for trying can you?

"What's got you so stressed then?"

"I'll have to pass," Jack declines rather gracefully, at least looking a little sad about it. "I guess the better question is ... what doesn't have me stressed? I became a granddad and I dumped Ianto all in the same twenty-four hour period, to start."

Demoman holds out a bottle in a friendly gesture. "Drinking's the way ta go. No other use fer it, otherwise."

Jack eyes the bottle dubiously. He knows not to drink random things in the Nexus. "I could stand to get totally skull-fucked my alcohol," he admits.

"Nothin' better than this, then." Nodding, as if to agree with himself, Demoman continues. "This," gesturing at the bottle, "is the best stuff ye'll find within miles. It's mostly made out of cactus and can knock ya out within a few shots."

He pauses. "'Cept fer me, of course. Never understood it." The bottle is still held out.

Jack takes the bottle and gives it an experimental sniff. "I guess a little drink never hurt." Famous last words, much? He takes a small drink.

"Glad to hear it," Jack answers softly, his smile a little wan. As for his coffee, well, he rolls his shoulders in a slow shrug. Unlike in his alternates' universes, Ianto doesn't make the coffee at the Hub. He made the coffee at home most of the time, but definitely not now.

"Yeah, I heard about the roofs thing. Too cold for me, but I love some good people watching." It's always been a fun hobby, which might be why he lurks at his office window at the Hub so often. "Ever feel like there aren't enough hours in the day for that, though?"

"I'm a pretty light sleeper, too," Jack admits, running a hand through his hair restlessly. "Couple years in the military makes it a necessity. Now I'm up and wide awake if I hear a sniffle on the baby monitor." Granted, sniffles usually turn into cries and he's got to get up to get Stephen, anyway, but still. The past couple of days have been brutal.

He grins a lopsided little grin. "I could use something stronger than coffee, believe me. Rough few days." Jack pauses, now just damn curious. "Ever break off things with your Ianto?"

Party music, some beer, and a willing bed partner or three. Though sometimes only vengeance can relax me.

"I'm not so good on the vengeance front," Jack admits, grinning, "but that sounds like a pretty good party." What with the music, beer, and potential orgy.

Some stressors need to be hammered into the ground until they can't get up or cause trouble again for me to relax, but otherwise a good party always raises my spirits and gives me reasons to continue on. I've cultivated some friends and partners open to the orgy party lifestyle because it's always better with willing people around.

"I'd imagine so," Jack laughs. "Maybe the ideal solution would be throwing a party." Orgy. Party. Same difference, right?
