In one of the more open and less populated spaces of the Nexus, something winged crashes out of the air and ends up stunned on the ground. Not to worry, he recovers quickly enough and takes in his surroundings, and very cautiously watches from the edge of things for a while ( Read more... )

Well, there's a new one, but he looks kind of fae-ish, and the bat wings are sort of cool. Courtney rubs the bat-shaped barette in her pale hair unconsciously as she approaches, giving him the kind of polite bow she does many fae and divine guests she runs into in the Nexus and at home. It's not meant to be a sign of subservience, just a respectful salute, although given Tyldak's history he could be forgiven for getting the wrong idea.

"I dunno," she says, "I guess it depends on the someone and what they're doing. I mean, if it's someone you really care about, totally giving up may not even be an option. But they say you can't change people. They have to want to change, and if they don't want to, there's not much you can do but get out of their way."

It's hard to say what he thinks of the bow, but he accepts it with a very slight nod and no change of expression. Even in Blue Mountain, Tyldak's never had much contact with humans.

"Get out of their way even if they're endangering themselves?" He watches her warily. Short blonde hair. Slightly feral way of moving. She reminds him just a little of somebody else.

"Yeah. Supposedly if you keep shielding them from the consequences of their actions you're just allowing the dangerous behavior to continue, and if you stand back and let them get hurt maybe they'll realize they're screwing up and stop it. Only it could backfire, I guess, if they get so badly hurt they can't recover from it. But what else can you do, if you can't change them and you can't help them?" She frowns thoughtfully, thinking of her uncle's stubborn behavior. "They call this crap 'tough love'. It makes sense, I guess, but I don't know if it works in real life or not. This is just what I've heard."

*Blink*

Tyldak's never heard psychobabble before, and he has to think about all this for a minute. "There is... nothing gentle about her love." He fidgets a little with his thumb talons. "I think I have tried that, a little. It's very hard to watch."

"If they really matter? ....Perhaps after 800 years. Perhaps."

This answer is given sober consideration while Tyldak stays carefully just out of reach. "I don't think I've known her quite that long yet." He is completely serious about this. His people live a long time. Potentially forever.

Paris politely refrains from illustrating that 'reach' is irrelevant to him. He'd be insulted as anything if he noticed Tyldak thinking Paris was a human, though. Paris can be a bit of a bigot, though it's mostly reactionary to human bigotry.

"How long have you known her, may I ask?"

He knows it's just for his own sense of security anyway, since plenty of weapons reach further. He also tends to count fingers, and judge based on that, but give him a while in the Nexus and he'll have to learn to put that aside.

"I... haven't kept track. A few hundred years? But it was a while before she took an interest in return." He's lived a long time, but his experience with romantic relationships is pretty limited.

"...Finished? Finished with what?" It's all good, since Tyldak doesn't trust any of these strange five-fingered ones either.

"Well that depends on who they are to me and what they're doing."

It... seems to be a talking rock. On the other hand, staring at someone else for their physical appearance would be hypocritical.

Tyldak flutters a little in the air. "My lovemate, and she is... difficult. Headstrong and impulsive, and sometimes a danger to herself because of it."

The young pirate captain with the oversize mouth look over his mug of (root) grog at the flyer. "When you know you can't help them."

"But how do you know that? It isn't always easy to tell." He keeps warily out of reach.

"Well, give me more details." Can't help if he doesn't know.
