"Have you gotten a chance to see your family yet?" the twelve-year-old altar boy asks, looking up at the soldier.

His face fell just a little. "Ah, that's something I...can't really do."

Not without his parents acting strange around him--being afraid of him.

Not without Tony Stark showing up at his front door, and after flying off without registering, it was unlikely he'd show up with an offer to join the Initiative.

"Oh. I am sorry." Pause. "Is there anybody else who really matters to you whom you could spend time with?"

"Ah, a handful of people? Back where I come from, I've been with 'em, talking and planning stuff to prevent these big potentially universe-ending things from happening. But they're war buddies. I'd die for 'em, but they're just...not family. Got one friend in here otherwise. Then...well, that's it."

That is all he has. A family that fears him, a government that'll try to arrest him even when though he's fought a war to protect them, and risked his life to bring the reinforcements in another to do the same, a severely mentally ill friend in the Nexus that he worries about, and a bunch of dead friends.

And his duty, which makes the rest of that not matter so much.

"That's all I need, though, anyway. Just a few people."

"Well, you've already heard the booze suggestion, so..." He shrugs. "My other one would be, 'Get some fucking sleep.' Actually, that's usually my first plan, 'cause there's almost never time while I'm running around saving shit."

He just realizes this now...

"I completely forgot that one..."

You forget shit when you're exhausted.

Grif chuckles. "Oh, man. Being awake for so long you've forgotten about sleep is never a good sign."

"Worldmind--" He forgot to do that silently, he was so tired. "--how much of the Nova Force am I dipping into just to keep awake and moving?"

||3% of the entire Nova Force, Richard. That is enough of it to power many, many Centurions.||

"Blue Blazes."

"Congratulations."

Peter is clinging to the wall, stitched up pretty tight. Forge fixed him up a bit, but it's clear that were he still alive, his current injury (aka being split in two) would have been a lethal one.

"Sleeping sounds like a nice idea."

He wistfully remembers a time when he actually slept, it would be nice to be able to do so now.
