A man steps into the Nexus with a friendly smile. He's a big man, and exudes an aura of power, money, and friendliness. Anyone who pays attention to the newspapers in similar worlds would instantly recognize one Mr. Bruce Wayne. And, it seems, he has a question.
He seats himself and leans back in his chair, thinking about how to phrase this before actually speaking up. "I've known this girl for a long time. She's smart, intelligent, athletic, and gorgeous. And, by now, a very old friend. And it's about time I moved the relationship into, you know. An actual relationship." Here, Bruce pauses and looks out at the masses. "...So, how can I break the news to her father without Commissioner Gordon arresting me?" Can he actually do that? seems to be the unasked question. It seems that Barbara's father has been making some comments here and there.
That, or Bruce just remembers some of the comments Jim made to Dick when he was dating the girl.
