Osama Bin Laden's dead

There's been people celebrating and maybe rightly so, but a death is still a death and it's a tad bit eerie to hear that bin Laden is dead. It feels surreal and almost like a lie. I am haunted by this idea that it's a hoax by the government to distract its people from other things at hand at the moment. I know it sounds crazy, but who knows. To ( Read more... )

I'm simply concerned we've made him a martyr. At least from the article on CNN that I read, he was killed in a Mansion near the Pakistani border. But it also mentioned that other members of his family were killed in the operation. And for a group based on religious beliefs, an enemy killing not just one person, but also relatives, can be a powerful motivation to continue and even increase hostilities.

I'm not happy about it. I think the best description for how I feel would be "satisfied", but even that is a bit of a stretch. I'd rather he'd have been captured and incarcerated than summarily killed in action.
