Notes on creating this video:
There are many reasons to love Olivia Dunham: her sensible shoes, her ability to count cards, her geeky nerdiness as evidenced by her nighttime reading and knowledge of both versions of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. However, what really impresses me the most is her general ability to keep her shit together and her priorities in order despite the insanity that is her life. This is a woman who will drink pureed flatworms sans fruit flavoring if it means getting results. She gets shit done. No matter how many times her world gets flipped upside down, Olivia always seems to adapt and push forward through sheer determination and grit. The fact that she does it even though it's hard and it scares the crap out of her is just another reason why Olivia Dunham Is Better Than You.
Because her life really *is* a freaky shitstorm of epic proportions and she really *does* struggle.
This vid tries to capture that by emphasizing the ways in which she's had to reshape her life: the evolution of her support system from John-Olivia-Charlie to Broyles-Astrid-Walter-Peter-Olivia; the switch from passively accepting the supernatural things in her life to actively using her own powers; the constant adjustment to the shock that the person she trusts the most isn't who he seems to be. It's also a shout-out to the awesome way JJ Abrams and Co. use light imagery to signify the dream-like world slowly creeping into the Fringe-verse reality, right down to Olivia's powers being tied to manipulating light. Nicely played, guys. Nicely played.
