This was wonderful - I loved the character insights. The wordplay between Luke and Vergere was great.

It is a sobering thought, that the older generation, even though they defeated the Empire, didn't really spare their children the warrior's life. If anything, they may have had it worse.

I love the - sparseness - of the way you write Luke/Mara, but it's rich, at the same time. If that makes sense.

Thank you! I liked Vergere's potential as a character back in the NJO days for her ability to challenge the philosophy of Luke's Jedi, because there's not really anyone around to do that. (Moment of silence for what Jacen might have been...)

It sort of occurred to me writing this that Star Wars is really one long saga of damaged childhoods -- at least Luke, Leia and co. were adults when they hit war, more or less. Not so Mara (and Han, I guess? I lose track of the canon stance on his backstory).

It does make sense, and thank you. :D I'm glad they were okay; I tend to have problems with LOTF-related irritation filtering into Luke/Mara fic I write these days, even though it's not really the fault of the characters. Bit depressing...

I've accidentally erased my comment (twice), so this is much shorter than I intended.

I really enjoyed this, especially Vergere--I know the LotF established that she was actually Sith, but she had such an interesting outsider viewpoint back in the NJO. I like Luke & Vergere's repartee, and her comment about their children is sad, and true, and sad because it's true. I know the NJO and subsequent series were building up the younger generation as protagonists in their own rights, but that it happened at the cost of their childhoods...

Also, Luke & Mara are so calm at the end of this; it makes a lovely respite in the middle of all the NJO doom & gloom we know preceded and followed this.

I, too, mourn the Jacen-that-could-have-been. :(
