Finally read the latest Megan Whalen Turner instalment, A Conspiracy of Kings. I don't know if it's because there's a little more distance between this book and the others for me, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected. (
Spoilery ramblings on Sounis, Attolia and Eddis )

Normally Robin Hood would tempt me, but my brain has totally rejected the thought of Crowe as Robin. I simply cannot face that, not even to see Cate Blanchett play Marian. (Or Marion. Whatever. :P )
Does every Hollywood historical epic have to include a staggeringly ahistoric speech about Liberty And Freedom For All, though?
Pretty sure it's mandatory, yes. And extremely tedious and heavy-handed as well. *sigh*

I was pretty disappointed with ACoK, but all the reviews I've seen have been positive, so I don't know, it may have just hit my buttons the wrong way. My objectivity, it is not so shiny. :p
I don't get this current trend of movies trying to sell the supposed historical origin of myths. I mean, a) the true origins are generally unknown and the history they use to prop up their theory is skewed anyway, and b) what's the point of making the myths boring? They've survived for the story and the characters, not the chronological setting.
*climbs down off soapbox*

You more or less expect it now, but it's never pretty. :p
