Moral relativism and the DN/LOTF arc (yes, it's that fascinating)

All my decent fic ideas lately seem to be set around LotF, which has lead me to give in and go back to the beginning (which, for LotF, I'm counting as the Dark Nest series) to try to get some concepts straight. Which in turn leads me to the overwhelming need to unburden myself as to some of the more problematic areas in the themes the DN/LotF arc ( Read more... )

The Dark Nest series just didn't sit well with me, I think because of the moral relativism plus the OOC for all the Jedi. I couldn't really see Luke doing what he had done nor could I see pretty much any of the characters reacting that way. I did like the idea of linkages so that they'd have the same thoughts at the same time - Jaina and Zek (?, the not-Jag person. I've forgotten how to spell it). That gave a sense of otherness to the stories. But they seemed to have the same problems that Vonda McIntyre book had (Crystal Star). It was a really interesting science fiction concept and the aliens were cool. But it wasn't Star Wars.

That's a good point. It's interesting rereading it, because I gave up partway through the third book but can't actually remember why. I suspect like a lot of Denning's post-NJO stuff the writing just didn't hold my interest. It always feels padded-out, but without anything worthwhile actually happening.

Oh, Crystal Star. Waru well deserves his infamy, doesn't he?
