Hey, a fellow Firz fan! I loved the first Farseer trilogy, although I never managed to get into the Liveship traders books, and found the Tawny Man books inconsistent.

And yeah, OK, I'll play. Pick me some interests.

I didn't mind the Liveship books - up until the ending, which had some events which rather bothered me - but I tend to forget they're in the same world, because it's such a different series. And yeah, Tawny Man was sort of erratic. It felt like it was badly rushed, or something, because the pacing was a bit bizarre, and plot lines and characters that were set up in the first book just fell by the wayside.

Hm, interests. How about:

bobby hobbes
daniel jackson
engineering
iolaus
lois & clark
publishing
superman

I really like a dark Luke as well. I think he could easily have become so if circumstances had been different. And I agree with you on Mara. Sometimes, she seems too infallable and that's not realistic plus she would have faced her past and moved on.

Since I'm going on vacation tomorrow and for a while, I won't ask about interests. This was very interesting to read your opinions on Luke/Mara.

Dark Luke is interesting to play around with. :D Yeah, I really think it was an issue with the writers not knowing what to do with Mara. You get to points in NJO and LotF where it's like, enough about her being Emperor's Hand already. It was a defining part of her life, yes, but it was decades ago. And it was covered amply in earlier books... you know, it's almost like what they did to Leia, where different writers continually took her back to the Vader issue. It's understandable that it would be hard for her to deal with, but having a character re-treading the same ground over and over is less than ideal, especially when it's done in a way that essentially has the character moving backwards.

Of course, with Jacen being a younger Vader, I would think it could be a good time to revisit Leia's feelings about her father and family. However, I won't be reading it since I'm done with books post LotF.

I'll have to check out Dalziel and Pascoe - it's something I've always heard of but was never really sure what it was about. But British detective duo? I'm there!

There is a TV series as well, but it vacillates wildly in terms of quality. The earlier seasons are based on the books and are stronger, whereas once they shift away from that... some crazy things start happening character-wise. It's still a decent crime show, but I much prefer the books.
