You would think that Luke would have said something. I don't remember the scene, though and I've read VotF a couple of times. Was Mara trying to get a rise out of Luke, maybe?
It's in the section where they're avoiding the firebug things (firecreepers?) and Mara's giving Luke the list of where he's gone wrong over the last few years. I think she says something along the lines of it all going back to whatever happened on Byss, Luke shudders and says something about the Reborn Emperor, and Mara goes, "Or whatever." But then she handwaves it a bit and says that's not the point, the point is he came close to the dark side, and that's affected everything he's done since. Luke protests he didn't go to the dark side, Mara says it's debatable, and so on. The scene itself I don't have a problem with, but the 'or whatever' remark of Mara's always struck me as a little odd to throw in there. Who does she think it was, if not Palpatine? What's she basing that on? Why doesn't Luke query the remark if it's the first he's heard of it?
As I said, I'm probably overthinking it. But this fic touches on Mara in that Dark Empire era, so I can't help wondering what exactly she meant there.
Ah, yes, that scene. I thought that Mara was trying to jab at Luke. She brought up the whole Callista thing, too. She was feeling the tug of their blossoming relationship, I think and trying her darnest to force him away from her. To protect herself from love and from him. I think she really did think it was Palpy reborn but she was trying to get at Luke and get him mad enough to back off. imo
Please tell me at least one of the characters made some kind on lewd remark when they discovered *that* super-secret weapon. Han, at least, wouldn't have let that pass.
