People that have known me a while often ask me why I got into designing video games for a living. Do you think you could give some examples of fighting irrationality with irrationality? I'm very curious, I don't think I quite understand what you mean by that.

If someone has a phobia of spiders, you shouldn't try to explain to somebody how spiders are rationally not something you should have phobia of. Instead, use the rules of irrationality and expose them to spiders over and over again until they lose the fear.

If you're arguing with someone about facts, you shouldn't try to win through logic. You should try and figure out the irrational logic that is lying beneath their seemingly rational position and use it against them. If it's really about pride and ego, appeal to that instead. Using reason to defeat irrationality is slow and painful.
