So tragic. The Monkees released so many gems in their time, and are unfairly overlooked.

They really did - some of them their own, some of them by the best songwriters of the generation. And I don't think I've yet run into a gathering of people who didn't start singing along if a Monkees hit came on.

But it'll be a while before I can hear the opening lyrics to "Shades of Grey" without tearing up.

Yeah, we were passing the news and online articles around at work yesterday, so warm thoughts were being sent to Davy even from Japan. I watched that show all the time as a little kid.

FWIW, I think 66 is too young to die of a heart attack, aside from "lifestyle" reasons.

But yeah, I didn't see Davy going any time soon. :-(

Apparently both his parents died relatively early with heart disease, but he'd gotten a completely clean bill of health a few months ago. So it took everyone by surprise.

As far as I can tell, his only 'lifestyle' issues were drinking like a Brit and shagging groupies on reunion tours.
