yeah, my initial reaction to halle as catwoman was to hope that they'd do a more serious interpretation of the character. and if they took some inspiration from the current comic book, so much the better. too bad they apparently didn't. i was just naively surprised at the vehemence of some of the racism. it's not like it's totally unheard of (yep, eartha kitt anyone?) and it would be interesting to see a smart, independent, defiant selina coded as a black woman (heh, tm hadiya)
still haven't seen last samurai, & i'm not too familiar with watanabe. although damn, he is, ah, photogenic...he should be a striking ra's, in any case. will have to wait and see.
when they announced that halle berry had been cast as catwoman, i read quite a bit of grumbling from fanboys, e.g. "dude i'm not racist or anything but catwoman ISN'T BLACK OMG WTF!"
they just are hip to the liberal media conspiracy, is all. how else would catwoman be black, omg, wtf?
