The Green Lantern has always been a black man to me. I will always see my GL as black, just like Storm will always look like Angela Bassett or Nona Gaye to me and not Halle Berry.

Hal is not even on my list of who I would want to make it to a GL film. Why not Kyle (who if I remember correctly, is Latino, right?)Why Hal? I wonder what they're going to do with Tom? If they cast it anything like Avatar, they'll probably get a white guy with dark hair and call it a day.

I think it's completely expected that they would change it from John Stewart to Hal Jordan.

We got to talking about John Stewart as a character and how high profile he is and to be completely honest, he's way more high profile than Hal is to the majority of casual-type fans. The Bruce Timm JL cartoons are the only way a lot of people who would see a GL movie have ever interacted with Green Lantern canon. Green Lantern just isn't one of the heavy-hitters in DC comics, we don't grow up with him as part of our pop-culture lexicon like we did with Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.

With that in mind and the knowledge that TPTB were previously just fine with having John be the GL in a live-action feature, so long as he was surrounded by white people, it makes the casting of Ryan Reynolds really questionable.

As I said, I'm not surprised, just disappointed.

A million times this!

I mean, JL/JLU was pretty much my introduction to the Lanterns, and that happened through John Stewart. Most younger people watching this are going to be like "Hal Jordan, who?" Of course a powerful black man like John Stewart is only good enough to play backup in a JL film, but when it's just GL by himself, he needs to be white. Even if the white guy playing him (IMO) does not fit the part ( ... )

I didn't even know Common was on the table, and now I'm RETROACTIVELY angry.
