i have concerns about my future. :|

i want to be a music journalist, right? yeah, i can write pretty well. yeah, i have an ever developing dictionary of music journalism adjectives. yes, i love music...which is a definite prerequisite to writing about music.

it seems like i have everything in check.

but here are the issues:

1) i have severe worries ( Read more... )

i hear ya. i want to work at a record label. i honestly can't think of another job i can truly see myself enjoy. i feel like i need to help the music. bring the good stuff going and get it out there.
but the odds are stacked against us. :/
also: being conservative and christian = not the best thing for that scene~.

we're totally just going to have to be neutral and TRY to not voice our views. :| which sucks. i guess it just depends on how much you want it and what you're willing to go through to get it. and i know both you and i want this A LOT. i can't see myself doing anything else, and it's going to be really depressing if i end up being a lawyer or something. lawyer is my backup career, but seriously, i won't be anywhere near as happy.

I am sure not all of the writers in Spin are liberal or hardcore partiers.

I like Fiery Furnaces, but I also like Kings of Leon, and even Nickelback & Lady Gaga, lol. I think all it matters, if you know about Fiery Furnances' music and a little bit about them. I help out with a street team organization called Gen79, and I am not going to lie, some of the bands, I advertise I am not the biggest fan of their music.

I think with politics..I think people should be more open-minded/tolerated with people being conservative. Not just with music, but the entire entertainment field.

Yeah, I'm sure that there are people in music magazines that aren't liberal or partiers, but it's probably a small percentage. I'd probably have to keep my views to myself and not offend anyone. haha.

P.S. just work on trying to improve your resume, like work for a student newspaper, or college radio..or street team for a few local bands, so you get your foot in the door

i write a lot for a music blog, so maybe that'll help a bit. i will be going to a legit journalism school soon, and they have all kinds of amazing internships. i'll find a way. :)

1. bb, you definitely have the persona. you might not have every part of it, but those things develop over time and come with experience.
2. your vocabulary and fluency is very impressive. you also add a very personal element to your reviews and that adds a shit ton of authenticity to them; in this day and age, authenticity is A+++++++
3. not crap gurl. you're excellent, and i sincerely mean that.
4. those are legit reasons. i think your fascination will work in your favour, tbqh
5. that's what'll help you succeed. it'll set you apart
6. indie is not where it's at. like allison mentioned on twatter, you don't have to like all the most obscure bands to be a successful writer.

good luck bb ♥ i have total faith in your abilities!
