How many people actually do this?

serafina20 posted this in her journal. I just had to link it here for the Churchies on my f-list, who might be reminded of a certain someone.

However, if someone made this video, I have to wonder, is this really common?

discussion, weirdness

I'm assuming it is relatively common (as in many communities have had one at one time or another - although I've only ever seen the one), but I have no idea how anyone falls for this shit anymore - the tricks should be so well known.

Did you actually see K-Troll's 'fake death' post at the Old Church just before the thread got closed? It was pretty funny actually as no one believed her for a minute (well, I didn't, I think a couple of people fell for it for a second or two), but basically everyone called 'Bullshit!' pretty much immediately. And of course there was the fabulous LacksFocus 'satirical stick cartoon' that it spawned; that was pretty much worth the price of admission.

That's so weird. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there are so many attention whores out there, but still. I guess in the olde days of yore, they all moved to Hollywood, but with the technological advances in communication of recent years, they can fame-whore themselves from anywhere on earth! Brave new world indeed.

I didn't know K. I'm not sure I would have really understood what was going on, anyawy, since I arrived so late. But I know all about her now. I do remember LacksFocus's stick cartoon. 'Twas funny. :)

This recently happened in Smallville fandom. The girl keeps creating sockpuppet journals and coming back every few months. There was an even bigger fake-death over in Harry Potter fandom. The lengths people go to for attention are scary.

Honestly, I'm still shocked that this happens on a regular basis. I knew of one instance, but I assumed it was an anomaly.

People are crazy.
