The tide is merciless as we rush forward to do battle with the small cadre of living dead that had surrounded Faith, Michael, and myself. I instantly go from Connor-mode to Destroyer-mode. My mind disconnects itself as my body becomes a living weapon ( Read more... )

Sam fell into me but somehow magically I caught her and she thanked me. Man, she was beautiful.

But there wasn't alot of time for that because Conner starts to scream things and then Ash starts to and soon I'm diving into the jeep, Sam jumping into me, not on because we're too packed in for on or next to...and we motor.

At that moment I have no idea who is driving but it doesn't matter because we are driving away from the explosion.

Her arm flies over me to hold me down as our car careens away through the streets. I look back to see alot of flames and corpses on fire and flaming corpses...and then like a candle in the wind...or a candle lit with kerosene a giant fireball just shot up a bit because of the converging flames. "Wow." I say as I look over to Sam.

I'm a little slow to catch onto the whole escape plan. I kinda get in a groove when I'm fighting and the whole survival instinct takes precedence over, y'know, unimportant shit like hearing.

Once the yelling gets through to me, I'm right with everyone else in the dash for the cars. One of the zombies gets in my way and I almost take a nosedive, but I've got enough momentum to overpower it. One flying leap later, I'm sardined into the back of a Jeep with a whole bunch of people I barely recognize...and Xander.

He and one of the unfamiliar girls are sitting right in front of me and I can see that puppy-dog look starting in his eyes as he looks at her. So what do I do? Interrupt, naturally. It hasn't been THAT long since he and I saved the world together.

Slapping my hand down on his shoulder, I lean forward in order to be heard over the still-chaotic stuff around us.

"Xan-man! Didn't really get to say hi earlier. What the hell are you doing in Michigan?"

I've never in my life experienced such chaos in one spot before. Sure, I'd HEARD about it...that little stunt with the town of Sunnydale is a humdinger and a half, not to mention what's left of it.
But all this was insane...and the scary thing was...I liked it. The adrenaline rush like never before, the constant rush of undead coming at you, the pretty flicker of the flames.
Wait, what?!

Note to self: Kaboom is not a good enough word.

Everyone was piling onto vehicles and storming out of there, myself, I was kinda hanging on the side of the door because everyone else was playing sardines.
I looked round for a familiar face and found Connors and smiled at him.

"Maybe on our next date we should stay inside", I laughed, "party nights of the undead are a bit much to handle"

No shit sherlock.

(Here's my 'I'm alive' reply, lol)

I realize the person I kept from teetering off the edge of the jeep was Xander and he looks at me like I was the one who started the fire theatrics, so I shrug a little in his direction and bring my arm back into my own personal space. Before I can think of something witty to say, a hundred and so pounds of slayer barrels in on us and I raise an eyebrow as she screams over the roar of the motor of the jeep.

We get a comfortable distance away from the inferno and I look over my shoulder and do a head count while Xander chats it up with the Faith, whom I knew on sight. That's the second slayer he knows.

The roar of the fire behind us is unbelievable, but as the jeep puts a further distance between our merry band of heroes and the zombie roast, it kind of is a spectacular sight.

I watch as it takes the front off a hotel, yet the building remains standing.

Hopefully no one was in there.

After gazing at the inferno for a few, I angle myself to look forward in the cramped jeep. Looks like we got everyone out, and apparently were heading back to the Iniaitive's HQ.

Well, it's a good thing I'm not opposed to teamwork, cause it looks like we just joined the family.
