Chibi Tut.!

Alright, here's a request from Ichigo_Inu

Go from this to
:D

It's a pretty easy tut., but pretty imageheavy.
I use Photoshop Elements 4.0

Start with your base, obviously. Fix it up the way you like, but keep in mind a few things:
~We're not going to use any backgrounds, so make sure it's an easily extractable image. Transparent PNGs would be helpful for this tut.
~Make sure you have a main focal point; Character(s) and such.
~I personally think this would work better with a brighter image, but hay, if you can get it to work, go for it!

Alright. So I have my base all ready. Now, you're going to get rid of that background! Make sure it is white, not transparent. I prefer to brush white over it rather than erase, but whatever floats yer boat.

Now we're gonna slap a base texture on there. I used a bit of this texture by Sanami and set it on "Multiply", 100%. I then erased the part over Byakuya. I use diffrent base textures based on what looks good with the image, so just use an image of a similar nature to match your icon.

Next, I slapped on these dots by silverlilian :
and rotated 'em so that none of them were covering Byakuya's face. I put this layer also on "Multiply", 100%

Next comes this light texture by cenedrawood :

I rotated it so that it was in the lower left-hand corner, and then set it to "Screen", 100%

Text time! Well, first, we gotta put the text box thingie. I used this one, by me:

They're fairly simple to make; rounded rectangle tool and just some fancy white fonts behind 'em (Thanks to Hanabiranoyuki for giving me this tip)
I brought down the opacity a bit (82%, to be exact). This however, is optional.

Alright, NOW for the text. I used "Kartika", 10 px. in the color #c9d7d9, which was a color I nabbed off the picture. Play around with fonts and stuff :3

Time for borders. On a new layer, I made a 2 px. border in white, and on another new layer, a 1 px. border in #dceaec, another color from the picture. I've made the text and the border the same color in other icons, and it worked nicely. The text is actually just a darker variant, since this color was too light for text.
I then merged the two border layers, and erased the part over Byakuya, to make it seem like he's on top of them.

And that's it!
