Methos likes Christmas time. It reminds him of tens of thousands of nights and celebrations now long gone and losing their vitality in his memory just as he long ago lost the memory of his first wife’s smile. He likes the self indulgence of the holiday and the vulgar decorations in shades of ruby, gold and emerald in the same way he likes rock music and a well brewed bottle. So when Joe gapes at four foot glittery plastic Santa face under one arm (good old Saint Nick, who was kinder to prostitutes than he should have been and who would have given the people at Coca Cola a thump on the nose for the red and white pseudo-god of plenty they’d given his name) and what he hoped would be a genuinely tacky pre-lit plastic tree under the other, Methos just grins widely out at him from too old eyes in too young a face and silently dares the Watcher to ask.
