2011 DCU Free For All Summer Clois Fest Challenge!!

Jul 18, 2011 15:45

Since I decided not to run a traditional summer challenge here on the Free For All this year, the time off has left the perfect opening for a smaller challenge, the 2011 DCU Free For All Summer Clois Fest Challenge!

In light of the DCU reboot coming in September, that's erasing the Clark Kent/Lois Lane relationship as we've come to know and love it (it's confirmed here), the month of August has been set aside for fandom to celebrate Clois in all its forms, with the Clois Fest. The clois_fest community has been set up to host and coordinate the Fest, which will run simultaneously across fandom and on several platforms (Livejournal, EyesSkyward.net, tumblr, etc) during the entire month of August.

Here on the Free For All, the 2011 Summer Clois Fest Challenge will run similarly to other community challenges, with prompts to use for fanworks inspiration, but with one major difference: this challenge will be two-tiered! There are 7 themed categories in which to create fanworks, and the prompts can be used in addition to the themes.

The Usual Challenge Rules:

The usual rules apply: anyone can participate, regardless of whether or not you have a primary challenge claim for the community. Though if you *do* have a claim that includes (or can include) Clark Kent/Lois Lane, I encourage you to include your submission(s) toward your challenge. All genres and fanworks media are welcome, though with this challenge, only fanworks featuring Clark Kent/Lois Lane (any and all versions of the pairing) will be accepted.

Your challenge is this: Pick a theme for your fanwork (feel free to create fanworks that fit more than 1 theme at a time), then pick up to 3 prompts from the list of prompts given, to use in addition to your chosen them. No need for claims (this is a claims-free challenge!), just choose your weapons and GO. As usual, there are no limits to how many fanworks you can create for the challenge; write, icon, vid, manip, or draw as much as you feel inspired to!

The Themes:

1. Vacation/Travel: Clark and Lois go on vacation or take a trip somewhere. Do they take a flight to Smallville? Or head to the beach with the kids in tow? Or drive up the coast? Or travel to Thanagar for a peace conference? The sky's the limit.

2. Clois Mix-and-Match: Pair up any version of Clark with any version of Lois from a different sub-fandom (ex: L&C!Lois with Comics!Clark, or Smallville!Clark with Superman Returns!Lois). It doesn't matter why. It doesn't matter how. Just put them together and see what happens. 'Verse hopping with different versions of the characters within the same sub-fandom counts, too (ex: Superman Returns!Clark [that's still pining over Lois] with a Superman Returns!Lois [that has married her Clark]). Just switch up the versions of the two of them somehow. Are those same sparks there? Do they even recognize one another?

3. Married with Children: Clark and Lois are married and have a houseful of kids. Future-fic, a lovely daydream, alternate reality, it's all good. Are Clark and Lois fantastic parents? Struggling? Need an occasional hand? What's family life like with the Lane-Kents? And how much do they disgust their kids with their PDAs? ^_~

4. Heat Wave: The mercury's rising, and the air in Metropolis is a sticky, hazy mess. How do Clark and Lois beat the heat? Do they hit the pool? Head to the southern hemisphere? Spend a week in the Arctic? Or can they not even escape those high temps? Does Clark even notice how hot it is?

5. Deadline: Time is running out. To finish an article, disarm a bomb, save Lois from a fall to certain death (again), make it to the altar (you get the idea). How wrong (or right) can things go when the seconds are ticking away?

6. Another Lifetime: Change just one thing at some point in the past, and everything's different. How does one little change affect your favorite version(s) of Clark and Lois? When the whole world is different, are Clark and Lois still the same people?

7. Date Night: Clark and Lois finally get a night off to themselves. Do they go out or stay in? Do they go catch a movie? Do they go dancing? Can Clark even stick around for the whole date?

Other Particulars:

Remember, you can use up to 3 prompts from this list and (because I'm feeling generous) from prompt tables #11, 13, or 16 in the Prompts Tables - Part 2 post.

Post your submission (or a link to it) to the comm with the usual header (as with other community challenges), and remember to tag your entry with fic or art or both, depending on your fanwork, and use the community challenge: summer clois fest 2011 tag when you post.

This challenge will run from July 18th (to get the Clois Fest ball rolling a little early!) through August 31st, at 11:59 PM, EDT, and as usual, all who participate will get a shiny banner. :)

Remember, you can multitask your challenge entry, too! oxoniensis's Porn Battle XII will be running the first week in August, and there will be other challenges running throughout Clois Fest, that'll be linked here. So why not get double credit?

Have at it!
