Hey everyone! We've got a smaller number of stories for claims this year, but there's still enough to go around. The four stories we got all look amazing, and we're sure you'll agree!
Now that the deadline has passed, we're putting the summaries up for artists to peruse. The claims don't actually open until Saturday, and please be aware that there might be a few late additions to this list as people turn in fics that have been granted extensions, but we want the fanworkers to have a chance to think about their claims now.
Important note for authors: please do not tell all of your artist friends what number your story is. The point of a challenge like this is to do blind claims, and while people may recognise your story from snippets you've posted or things you've talked about in the past, please don't give them the exact number of your fic. Additional and unrelated note, if your story is missing, or something else is wrong, PM me ASAP so I can fix it.
This post will be closed to comments until claims open on Saturday at noon ET. We will post a notice that claims are opening, at which point we will open up the comments and each artist can claim ONE story. Once all the stories have been claimed, or if there are still unclaimed stories by Sunday, 30 August at 3PM, we will allow secondary claims.
When requesting your story, please list your top two choices in the order that you want them. Please list the number of the story and the title (e.g., "#11, Nine Tenths"). Please include both pieces of information. That way we can be sure that we don't accidentally give you the wrong piece because of a typo. The claims will be on a first come, first served basis, and we will do our best to confirm your claim as soon as possible.
Fanworkers, if you are not a member of the comm, please join by
filling out the form after you make your claim. If you have any questions, please contact us on our
page-a-mod post!
Claims will close on Saturday, 5 September, at 11:59 PM EST. Match-ups will be emailed out after that; it will be up to the author to provide the artist with a copy of their draft at that point. If an author notices that their story has been claimed and confirmed before that point, and wants to send their story to their fanworker before match-ups are sent out, that's fine :)
1. Title: Seaside Idyll
Genres: Fluff, Hurt/Comfort, Romance, Slice-Of-Life
Fandom/Universe: DC Comics (Wonder Woman)
Characters/Pairings: Diana (Wonder Woman)/Steve Trevor
Warnings: (Ch. 5: Depiction of burn victim, Ch. 7: Near-drowning)
Rating: NC-17
Summary: After a bruising battle, members of the Justice League of America go off for rest and recovery, and Steve insists that Diana accompany him to a special place. They spend their R&R in a seaside town, trying to relax despite the occasional nightmare.
2. Title: Things We've Gained, and Things We've Lost
Genre: Romance, Action, and Angst.
Fandom/Universe: Young Justice, post season 2.
Characters/Pairings: Jason Todd/Roy Harper (Arsenal).
Warnings: Underage sex, underage (light) drinking, non-graphic violence, PTSD, claustrophobia, mild/severe panic attacks, and referenced (canon) character death.
Rating: R/Explicit (for graphic sex).
Summary: Having refused Nightwing's offer to rejoin the team, the original Roy Harper goes his own way. What that actually means is that he needs somewhere to stay, and something to do with his new solo act, neither of which he has. So he goes to Red Arrow - the older Roy Harper - to ask for a safe house so he can figure his life out on his own, outside the watch of either the Team, or Green Arrow. While at his clone's apartment, a man walks in that Roy doesn't know, but who seems to know Red Arrow pretty well.
One introduction, hijacked mission, and a few conversations later, Roy finds out the man is Jason, aka the Red Hood. A mercenary and a formerly dead Robin, who happens to be pretty understanding of the idea of wanting a life away from the eyes of the family who gave up on you. They end up as roommates and sparring partners, working side by side on Jason's jobs and both relaxing into the company of another person they can really, truly, trust.
For warnings, all panic attacks are by the non-PoV character. The underage relationship is the focus of the story; Jason is 17, Roy is 15 when the relationship starts and 16 when actual penetrative sex occurs (they're a year and a couple months apart in age). Everything is completely consensual on both sides.
3. Title: The Family Legacy
Genre: Family fluff with a healthy dose of angst and mild plot
Fandom/Universe: Batfam/Nolanverse
Characters/Pairings: John Blake, Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Rachel Dawes, Jim Gordon, Tim Drake, Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown, (+ Coleman Reese as a in-name-only Riddler, Harley Quinn, and the Joker).
Warnings: Violence against minors that comes with the Batfam territory, but nothing super graphic? Mostly aftermath of stuff described in semi-detail because I suck at writing action scenes. Also I merged Death in the Family and the Killing Joke, so general major character death & major character crippling warnings.
Rating: T
Summary: Unable to turn down a kid in desperate need of a (what he hopes will be just temporary) home, John Blake takes in a newly-orphan Dick Grayson. It’s the start of the time-honored bat-tradition of adopting every violently orphaned child in sight. John’s night-life as Batman complicates things and puts his new-found (bat)family in danger, especially as new villains start to arise.
OR: In which John Blake is Batman for ten years and in that time manages to become the Batdad the orphans of Gotham both need AND deserve. While also fighting a few bad guys and struggling to figure out how to live up to the legacy Bruce left him.
It's just Batfam nonsense with a loose plot and a bittersweet but strongly hopeful ending.
4. Title: Currently Untitled
Genre: Angst, case-fic, team-fic
Fandom/Universe: Batfam; I borrowed elements of Earth 2 and Forever Evil, but neither of those is canon for the fic. Just generic Batfam.
Characters/Pairings: Damian Wayne, Richard Grayson, Thomas Grayson, Tim Drake, Jason Todd, Alfred Pennyworth
Warnings: human trafficking, sex work
Rating: R
Summary: Damian refuses to accept that Grayson is dead, which is why he's the first (and only) person to investigate when a stripper wearing his face turns up out of seemingly nowhere. When this not!Grayson disappears, Damian decides it's up to him to find him. (Damian is 16 in this.)
I really wanted to write stripper fic, and I kind of failed utterly. The sex work and human trafficking, while a kind of important part of the plot, are only mentioned and not described in detail. This fic is actually entirely an excuse for me to write Damian carrying a toddler Tommy Grayson around with him to places like board meetings, and also to write a reunion fic that isn't terribly happy. I focused a lot on the Damian&Jason and Damian&Tim brother relationships, and there is a scene where Damian scrubs banana off of Tommy's face.
It's not married to any particular canon, I borrowed parts of Forever Evil and the Earth-2 World's End storylines; but I did not stay particularly faithful to either of them. I have included both Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown in this fic.
