Lego

I have been dabbling with Lego again for the last little while. I was given a giant Lego crane set (42009) for my birthday by Rachel and I brought myself the tow truck (42008) with some birthday money I was also given. (I have this thing that says I can’t just use birthday money for day to day spending. It has to be something special. Lego ( Read more... )

My parents are cleaning up their house. They recently handed me a box full of my old Space LEGO.

It's very nostalgic. But we have nowhere to display them in my flat.

Well, If you don't want it or cant store it........ :P

I'm so glad my parents kept mine. It was my favorite toy growing up. I know of many friends who have theirs still (and use it) but I have also had horror stories from friends who gave their Lego to the op shop or even worse, the garbage collection receptacle.

I'm planning on making random Op shop drop ins to see if they have Lego. Its unlikely. I believe there are a number of people who already do random op shop drop ins.

My parents sold "mine" while I was away studying overseas.

I've been thinking about what construction set to get our kids on - as a reflective adult, I don't like the way that 1) Lego eaches a distorted version of what it takes to adhere components together, and 2) an increasing overdependence on non-reusable parts. However, looking at these models, I see that the first issue is being addressed in these models by a large number of peices that need to be fixed by rounds. So, I think Lego wins.

Ldraw is far superior to LDD in terms of what you can actually do. It does take a little to get used to though. Ldraw was designed by an Australian and has probably come a long way since you last looked at it.

You can still sometimes find lego in opshops but it's few and far between - mostly because it gets snapped up by the opshop employees.

You can get digital copies of the instructions from a number of different sites or you can purchase a lot of them through Bricklink.com.

So FAR I have been quite happy with LDD, although it does have a few annoyances that are begining to ... bug me. Aside from the first two I mentioned, the view screen centres on the centre of the object being created. If you are drawing something quite long (like a large ship, for instance) its difficult to focus the view on the bow and move around just the bow.
For me its a work in progress with regards to choosing a drawing program.
