The Pon Farr May Come To An End...

The Bigsy has a date this Friday...and is rather nervous!

I haven't actually ever been on a date (all my relationships have kind of just happened) so I have no idea what to expect and am not looking forward to 'small talk' - mainly because I'm crap at it!

Also, it feels kind of like I'm being forced into it (despite actually liking the wee lassy) ( Read more... )

You only went and bloody did it Bigsy! Come on....details!

a.) You know, if you're nervous about small talk the worst place for a date is a pub/restaurant where it's looking at each other over a table with nothing to do but make small talk. Why not do something like the cinema, or the zoo or something that will be both memorable for her and allow you to get to know her without the whole 'So...what are your favourite films then?' awkwardness as you wait for your food. Get a car from work and take her to West Quay. Bowling maybe?

b.) You can't have ideas for small talk, it just happens. If you have ideas, it's obvious you have a list of questions and that's baaaaad. If you can't do small talk naturally then it's probably not going to work Bigsy.

Small talk isn't easy though, which is why doing something fun and with a purpose is the best way to go.

Well we know each other quite well anyway so it shouldn't be so bad. I was thinking more along the lines of a couple of back up ideas in case we do run out of things to say that are a bit odd and might provoke more discussion in a strange avenue. Becca is odd and very Phoebe-esque so those sorts of things are good! I know there will be Eurovision talk because we're both insane for it!

We were thinking cinema but there's nothing we both want to see so that's out. We'll probably be in Southampton as that's where she lives so bowling's a possiblilty but she's probably been loads of times.

Get a car from work?! It's not a motor pool! They're only there for work business and I'm not a member of staff who needs them for trips away from the site!

Well, there's always the 'tell me about your childhood' thing, as that usually brings up funny stories and shared memories of things.

I'd say go bowling then, and then move on to something to eat.

About the date, my advice is to chat to her as you would chat to friend, but throw in the odd compliment from time to time.
