Warriors

Jason'd was in the mood for decent food, and beer that wasn't watered, and someplace that was safe for heroes to come in either guise. That meant Warriors, when you were in New York. He'd called Amelia up, let her know where he was gonna be for the night, and headed for the bar. Maybe he should have called some of his new coworkers...screw it. He ( Read more... )

All the sarcastic banter is wearing. Amelia sips at her cognac, tired but comfortable. At least the folks on her side of the bar are in good spirits.

"There's got to be darts or pool in this place, right?" Alcohol and her aim should never mix, but what the hell.

"Y'know," Jason murmurred into Amelia's ear. "I wouldn't even make you throw darts to have drinks on me." He watches the kid throw for a while. Jason? Horny never happen. "Of course, I'd have drinks on you too..."

Amelia giggles. "[Aww, you're both pretty]," she says intentionally in Russian. She switches back to English and whispers to Red. "Yes, but the game is fun."

More practice won't really help. She'll still only be slightly better than your average storm trooper. "Ready?"

Watch who you're calling kid. How long ago was it you were running around in spankies, anyway?

"All set here." Owen takes his place on the line, taking a few heavy steps back from it to feel out his position, then puts the blindfold back on, holding out the darts for Amelia. "I can give you some pointers after this if you want."

"Sure." Amelia takes her darts, and a few steps back, waiting for her inevitable defeat. It wasn't such a bad defeat. After all, pointers on what had not be explicitly specified, but could be later.

"So is this first player-second player, or turn-taking thing?"

Owen shrugs. "I'll go first." He sets his feet apart a bit on the line, and hurls all three darts from hip level.

They zip through the air, each landing neatly in the bulls-eye.

On the other hand, Amelia uses different techniques for each throw. One lands far to the right, the second two inches below the bullseye, and the third is higher but still on the right of the board.

"At least I know where my drift is," she says drolly, but with a smile. "I believe we each have two more shots. Perhaps I can salvage my record."

Zephyra stood back and watched the darts game. She wasn't particularly adept with darts and wasn't that intent on getting drunk either. A game of pool sounded fun. She wasn't especially skilled at pool, but she'd spent enough time playing it after school and then teleporting home as a teenager that she'd gotten halfway decent at it. Decent enough that she wouldn't embarrass herself, at least.

"So, who's up for a game?" she asked, seizing a pool cue. "I'd go with the round of drinks stakes, but I'm not going to be drinking enough to use it...this time. Whoever loses a game of pool against me gets to be responsible for being the designated transport next social event so I can have more than a couple of drinks."

"Well that's not nearly so much fun, as if we get to have you after we drive you home," Jason told Zephyra, chalking up his own cue.

Owen smiles, nudging up the blindfold enough to wink at Amelia. "Don't sell yourself short. I already owe you one drink from that last shot. Let's see if you can get two more."

He slips the blindfold back into place, chucking the last two darts at the same time. They both sink into the bullseye, now getting crowded. He grins without even removing the blinfold.

"I heard steel on felt. I'm guessing you owe me dinner and a movie?"

"Bragging, sir, has its place, and public is not it," she responds with a smirk.

Amelia measures her next shot carefully, and just barely misses the bullseye. It's probably in her confidence that the last one strikes to the right again.

Owen takes off the blindfold and survey's his opponent's work. He smiles at her. "Not bad. That's... three drinks I owe you. You can handle that many, right?" He grins teasingly, gesturing towards a table near the bar.

Zephyra laughed at Jason's remark. "Oh, I wouldn't be that much fun once you got me home...too much liquor in my system and this girl is out cold. I'm much more fun when I'm sober or mildly buzzed."

She set up the pool balls in the right order.

"I'll break, unless you want to?"

"You must be joking," she says. Amelia has the exact opposite problem that alcohol generally gives her insomnia... which is why it'd good for working, if it wasn't for the whole inebriation thing. She learned that lesson the hard way.

Jason seems distracted with his game of pool with Zephyra. It gives Amelia an excuse to slip over to a table with Owen without a biting comment, even if the ascot is still pretty lame.
