Titans... Apart?

Aug 14, 2011 14:56

Nekron has failed. The power holding the Black Lanterns together has failed. They are dying.

But Trigon, even as a Black Lantern, has never been one to give up so easily. He reaches into the very essence of the universe...

... and portals begin opening through Hypertime all around the gathered battling Titans.

starfire, halcyon, dove don hall, cyborg, omen, "blackest night", red star, troia, kid devil, static, wonder girl, kid flash, arsenal, tempest, zachary zatara, changeling, raven, fauna, speedy mia dearden, titans, nightwing, karen duncan

And one Titan who is thoroughly ignoring these portals is Vic Stone. He knows, through his ring, that anyone who got a Red will have their heart turn inside out. They'd have survived through this whole mess and then, nothing. So with what remains of his own power, even if they all died afterwards, he would try to make sure at least one of the Reds don't die before everyone else.

So, with channeling the blue around him, Vic Stone, the Cyborg and current Indigo Tribe deputy, does his damndest to reach the nearest Red deputy.

His pull hits Kory square on.

She does not want hope. How many lovers has she buried? Three husbands gone. Dick has fallen, the Titans die around her. The Slavers and Trigon run without restraint. She must have...

Daughter of And'r House. Hope of the people!
Look, Bessar. His eyes are blue - like yours.
"Look in your dreams, Sey'la, and I will always be with you..."

So many in colorful costumes and bright light. Titans Together.

Titans Hope...

"C'mon, Kory. Pull it t'gether. Ain't a time to rage..." Cyborg muttered to himself, pouring the blue in Kory. And even through the secondary connection to Hope, he begins to see glimpses of what he hoped for. He saw his mother, his father happily together while he was in his suit. His arms are wrapped around a woman, their embrace only strengthening even when he would hurt a person, him leading the Titans with all the younger folks...

And with that, Vic Stone feels a little bit stronger, a little bit more full of hope, and a little bit more ready to give that hope to ensure those around him live, starting with Kory.

The Blue hits and starts to burn away the rage. There is the blue of the skies and the warmth of this alien sun, the pleasure of soaring among the clouds.

There is the Blue of Nightwing's costume, standing out from the black - once lover, always friend. The blue marked his differences from He Who Would Call Himself Gotham's Emperor. It was that blue that reminded them all that they were not mere shadows of older teams, but something strong and different - swords and shields of this planet and each other.

There is the Blue of San Francisco Bay and the Blue of the skin of her first voluntary lover, a fellow slave who never lost his faith and found his peace in a death that freed others for s short time.

There is the Blue that is Luum's eyes.

Luum Simon And'r - Luumand'r of Earth.

She must hope for her little boy. She must hope for her otherworld daughter, servant of the Endless Dream, King of all Hope.

The thought of her children and her team allow her to let the Blue pull her from the Red and towards its source...

The hope ( ... )

The Titans have always been a close-knit team. There are many possible reasons for it, but the reasons aren't important when the result is people who would -- and could, and have -- run naked into Hell for each other. The Titans, it could be argued, are less of a 'team' and more of a family. Unfortunately, now it's a family of corpses animated by borrowed light. Only one of them has her own pulse, and she'd almost lost it when Nekron had reclaimed the dead who had risen before Blackest Night.

Almost. But Death's Bounty Hunter had seen to it that one Titan lived to the end.

Tula recoils from a Hypertime portal as something white-hot throbs in her chest. Acting on an impulse guided by sudden, fundamental certainty, she whirls around and grabs Garth, kissing him with everything she is, was, and ever will be.

With all his heart.

His heart... which again beats.

Garth of Earth... LIVE.

And with Garth living again, white light channels out through him as well.

The Titans are more than just teammates -- Titans Together is more than just a battlephrase. It is an ideal that is the heart and soul of the team. And as long as one Titan breathes, the team has not been defeated.

Only one Titan lived... truly lived anymore. Some might consider her the least of the team. Just "Aquagirl." But today, she has saved the team... and the world.

Through Tula, Garth has been restored. Through Garth, his friend Karen Duncan, through Compassion.

Karen Duncan... LIVE!

And outward, as the other Titans near them also are hit with the white light, the white light carried by emotional tethers like a spider's web that connect every Titan to one another.

It doesn't matter if people think he's a kid, and that he hasn't grown. He knows, and as long as he can work hard, he can let them learn it in their own time.

HOPE.

He can live, he can fight, he can grow. He can be the hero his grandparents and parents and cousin and most of all Max raised him to be. They believed in him, so now he could believe in himself.

BART ALLEN... LIVE!

Even before the Black Lanterns killed her, Mia had lived with death for a long time. She knew she had a death sentence, but more than ever, that had just given her life purpose. Even if she'd still carried the weight of it with her, the fear that someone couldn't love her, that she was dirty, Connor, Ollie, and especially Jaime, had taken that weight from her bit by bit.

Now, it was time to prove it was worth a damn.

HOPE.

"Titans South, Together!"

Mia Dearden... LIVE!

The battle over, she looks back at her beloved. She can already feel herself slipping away as power of the ring ebbs. She is smiling though he recognizes the look in her eyes as the life fades from them.

"We had a beautiful life, didn't we?"

He doesn't want to break up couple time, but this may be the last time he is able to see them both. It's like when they stood, after the Olympics, waiting for Donna's choice to bring her children back. Instead, she brought him and Roy back from the dead. this time, there are no Gods. Nothing that is going to make this all better. Bludhaven is still standing. They're dying together. there are worse ways to lose your life and then settle accounts.

He nods at Donna's question as she opens her arms to let him into the circle. "If I had you two at my back, there was hope."

White light, brighter than they have ever seen chases away the darkness, but darkness has a final card to play. The earth below them errupts into multi-colored fizzures in a dazzling array of colors and -

Possibilities?
