The Last Titan

Jun 16, 2011 11:53

Tula skids when she hits the dirt, tumbling head over heels until she collides with a particularly large rock. There isn't a part of her that doesn't ache right now, and she doesn't even have the energy to keep up her protective field. Someone - it doesn't matter who anymore, every person here is a fallen friend puppeted by a black ring - grabs her ( Read more... )

Don Hall isn't truly alive. He's been given a few hours to inhabit his body and help save the world, but then he's going to return to the dead and rest again.

But for every life he's saved here at Clearwater, he's watched a friend die. He may have helped save civilian lives, but he's been unable to save a single Titan. And now the last living Titan is about to be killed.

"Tula!" he screams, trying to get there in time to save her... but he knows already he can't...

...when a blue-ringed hand catches Grant's arm.

"Get your hands off of her!"

Garth of Atlantis stands before them, a blue ring on his finger.

A beam of electricity-tinged green grabs Grant's other arm, making sure he can't renew his attempt.

"What he said."

"No time to go into detail," Garth explains to Tula amidst the Titans deputized all around them. "I'm not here for long... none of us are... but long enough to make a difference." He smiles at her, charging her green ring further with his blue ring.

As soon as the deputy-rings lose their charge in 24 hours, they'll be returning to the dead... but at least they can do something now.

Garth looks at the assembled heroes, then back at the Black Lantern Trigon and his assembled forces.

"Titans...

TOGETHER!"

"I'm not here for long..."

In spite of Garth's super-charging it, Tula's green ring suddenly feels loose on her finger. Even if this fight -- this whole war -- goes their way now, she's still going to end up alone. She's still going to have to bury everyone.

She clenches her hand into a fist to keep the ring from sliding off, takes a deep breath, and flicks away the tear rolling down her cheek.

"Long enough to make a difference," he said. Well then, it's time to make a difference. What happens after...happens after. Tula flexes her will and creates a green trident in her hands, and follows her dead lover and friends into battle with a cry.

Gear smiles. He knows he's dead -- but he died helping to save the world besides his friends and allies. Backpack has transformed, with the head now a core of indigo light, like the Indigo Tribe's staffs, and he borrows the lights of the greens around him to blast at the various Black Lanterns, taking them out one at a time.

"No one make any jokes about the color-thing," Gar notes, a massive green dragon breathing blue flames down on the Black Lanterns. "I can't be green all the time."

"It's still a better color than whatever it was wearing your form," Fauna says, looking for all the world like something out of James Cameron's Avatar and kicking butt with the staff.

Nightwing did order her to lern something from each Titan. She asked Kory for help on the stick combat.

Don doesn't need a ring, and he refused the Indigo that came towards him, as he knows someone else could use it.

Instead, he waits until the Black Lanterns surround him... then he unleashes a strange white light within him, causing them to crumble.

"Rest in peace, my friends," he tells them, before moving on to another group.
