Alan Scott, a feeble old man, can only sit shackled in his own mind while the black ring on his right hand drains away his life. After all he had done, after all he had lived through, from World War II to Ragnarok to the War of the Sinestros, all he could do was watch from the inside while the black warped the flames of the Starheart and turned them against those he had spent his long long life trying to defend ( ... )

Jennie falls by her father, but not before becoming a dark, shadowed version of herself. This one does not torment the living. It merely falls silent by her father. In her last act of will, Jennie-Lynn Hayden has decided she will not fight her friends and will not betray everything she has lived her life for. These shadows will not have her until the last.

As the shadows retake Todd, he falls silent as well. Wrapping himself in darkness, he refuses to be used again either. He floats there motionless and silent with his family.

No... not Superman. Hal flies towards his long-term friend, glowing with green energy. "Kal! Fight this!"

The Kal on the inside was trying. The ring wasn't.

Hal? HAL!
Don't you hate that color? Green? Remember when he used it on you? Made his ring try to stop you?
I was out of control. His ring could stop me, it can stop you!
He's so full of WILL isn't he? We must stop it!

And the Black Lantern's hand, Superman's hand lunged out at Hal Jordan's chest, hoping to feast on that heart, while Kal-El screamed within his own head.

The force of Superman's super-fast arm could punch through Hal's shields, potentially... but Hal dodges to the side.

"Kal, talk to me... are you in there? Can you stop this?"

He creates bindings, trying to restrain the Ghoul of Steel.

That was the problem with Hal. He wasn't as clever as Kyle had been. Or, sure, Hal was stronger, he had more will, but if there was anything Kal knew, it was that clever had a tendency to beat strong.

"We're trying to fight it Hal! Arrrck... The ring... it feels so cold..."
That's not me, Hal! Stop listening! And the ring had just lied with Superman's mouth. So much for truth.

Violet light flaring around him, Terry continued to fight on. His eyes widened in shock behind his mask at the sight of the first turned hero he ran across.

"Oh...this is just getting worse and worse."

A black and white form flies his way.

"Then let us bring you peace. The peace and silence only death can bring."

Terry jumps and fires a beam of violet light at Wonder Woman, trying to trap her in a crystal. "That's really counter-productive!"

She tries to dodge the hit but keeps on coming anyways.

"Why? Aren't you tired of fighting? Tired of loosing? Embrace peace."

There is no preamble. No witty banter. A hideous cackle fills Ralph Dibny's ears as black lantern with the face of his wife and clothes mirroring those of Eclipso dives towards him.
