Brenda never slept well the night before something important. Tests, job interviews, long drives to unfamiliar places... she found herself wandering around. When her father was still alive she had paced in her room. At Amparo's house she wandered the hallways and empty rarely used rooms, listening to the creaks and groans of the building settling

Paco hits the mute button on his headset. "How much trouble do you think I'd be in if I used the teleporters to hunt this guy down and smack him? It'd be for great justice, I swear."

He's familiar with Brenda's before-test sleeplessness. He hauls a foot down from the desk and kicks a nearby rolling chair in her direction.

"Heaps of trouble. Truckloads. Batman might show up."

Brenda takes it, sinking onto the seat, watching him play for a few minutes.

"I didn't delete that text you sent me." she says after a minute, carefully not looking at him.

Paco sighs. "I figured you'd say that."

He resumes playing -- and swearing in Swedish -- until she gets around to that little revelation of hers. At which point, he immediately concentrates on the screen to the exclusion of all else.

"Yeah? Preserving the proof that I do actually know where the caps button is on the phone?"

"Partly. Also just...." She takes a breath. "Is this really still on your mind?"
