In the distance, a figure in a cap and trenchcoat watched. He had just visited Wintergreen and Lillian's graves. He looked at his children at Adeline's grave, and a smile crossed his lips, they were together, that was good. He walked towards the grave, staying incognito, and he kneeled by a nearby grave, pretending to pray, so he could listen, maybe find out how they were doing before he did anything.

She smiled back to him, the thanks wasn't necessary, they were family. Both the last of it that they had, really. An arm snugged around Joey for a brief hug, impulsive and awkward but it felt right. It wasn't like hugging a stranger exactly, more like a long absent friend.

He was a good teacher and she was a quick study, the more they talked the more sign she picked up on. Thankfully her own communication was easier with just talking. Still he needed both hands to talk in his way and she released him.

"The flowers are really pretty, I know she'd love them, and love that you thought to bring them."

The hug does more to help him feel better than he would have expected, and he's greatful for it however brief. It's enough to make him feel a little lighter.

He reaches over to push a peice of Rose's hair out of her eyes as the wind tugs at them.

Thanks. Let's get someplace warm, ok?

Going anyplace is going to be a little difficult with that rotting hand wrapped around his ankle though...

Family, who would have guessed it could mean so much between two people who had been denied it for harshly. Rose smiled at her brother's gentle gesture, leaning lighting into his hand for the moment. It was nice to be around a guy she felt comfortable with and not worry about what he wanted from her.

He signed the desire to find somewhere warm and she nodded. That sounded nice, maybe they could find a book shop or something. Contrary to some opinions of her, she did read.

She turned to head back out of the cemetery but stopped short at the look of shock on Joey's face. Her eyes darted down to see the decaying limb gripping her brother. "What the hell?"

Wherever Joey has lept, it is cold. Dark. Empty.

Gradually, there is a sense of movement, and the universe below him turns to examine him.

"Little creature... did you truly believe you could take possession of something so vast as to be death itself?"

A massive hand reaches up towards Joey...

And suddenly, a pale man in a red acrobat's outfit is by his side, grabbing his wrist. "C'mon, kid! This way!" A moment later, somehow, they have avoided the massive grasp of the hand. They remain in shadowed cold blackness, but at least the thing that had attempted to grab at them is gone. Still, however, Joey can sense things outside his perspective in the darkness... waiting.

"That was a close one! You're one of those Titan kids, right? What are you doing here?"

Joey lifts his hands to sign, but then shifts his jaw. Contact here feels partial at best but there is SOMETHING he has anchored to, so maybe...

"I possessed the body of one of the risen dead, but it did not work the way I had intended it to."

He pauses, making sure he just heard that properly.

"Oh my. This unarguably the creepiest borrowed voice I have ever had. My apologies for the looming tone. I am Jericho. You are?"

"Sounds like we're in the same boat then, kid," he notes, disturbed at first by Jericho's voice, then apparently soothed by his explanation. "I'm Deadman. Ask Dick about me sometime -- I'm one of the good guys."

He looks around. "Look, kid... can you get back out again if you need to? Because I've been doing some digging around, and I've got some news the living should probably have... but we don't have a lot of time."

Something wasn't right, she might not know how his powers worked but she could tell when things had suddenly gone off. The body was shaking, moving jerkily as if a child held a marionettes strings.

"Joey?" Dead freak show zombies or no, that was her brother out there dammit! Rose threw open the door and covered the ground in seconds, one hand, white knuckled on the katana she'd borrowed, the other there and luckily ready to offer support to her brother who reappeared at her feet.

"You ok Joey?" He looked like a weak little kitten and her brows furrowed with concern. They shouldn't be out and exposed like this, but she wasn't sure Grant was ready to walk just yet.

He shuddered still, struggling to his knees, holding up a hand to assure her he was alright although it shook badly.

Just puppets. He signed, then lashed out a foot and knocked the wobbling zombie Grant back to the ground. Nekron, playing with them.

He took Rose's hand, let her pull him to his feet, then pulled Rose into a hard desperate hug, pinning her sword at her side for moment before stepping quickly away.

I have to go, important, have to tell everyone. Back if I can.

There's a gravity in those last few words that makes him nauseous. He can feel the power gathering, the coldness pooling in the pit of his stomach, hearkening something he knows in his bones is evil, and every bit the nightmare it has probably always aspired to be...

He points fiercely between Rose and Slade, signing at both of them. Stay together.

He closes his eyes, focuses his turmoil of emotion down to a single strong beacon of desperation.

He can sense her. The emotions of the world and death are catching her in a maelstrom. She thought it would get better after helping Talon find companions, but instead it's grown worse. Without a focus, she cannot find her way home.

When their minds connect he finds a foothold in her attention and digs in his heels, but the emotion he's trying to reach her with just isn't enough to ground either of them.

So he tries something else, which isn't hard because the chaos he's pushing through to try to catch her full attention makes him terrified for her in an instant.
