Virgil had once again been called on to light the town Christmas Tree, though luckily this holiday season hadn't been as hectic as the last time he had been called on to help in the festivities. Gear hovers nearby, watching proudly. He might have his issues with his father -- who has thankfully started growing out of some of his racist attitudes -- but he's still glad to be back in Dakota City with his parents and his best friend, beloved hero that he is.

Before Static can release the electricity though, the lights on the tree begin to glow with an eerie blackness. The glow becomes...not brighter, brighter isn't the right word, but stronger and stronger until suddenly the bulbs begin to burst one by one. Then the electrical wires abruptly contract, slicing the tree into pieces that rain down on the people below.

Hovering over the now-screaming crowd is a woman wreathed in the same spooky light. So far, the light is obscuring her features, but there's something a little familiar about her...

The response form the crowd was instant. Scream and get the hell out of there as soon as possible. The people of Dakota had long since learned that ominously floating things of darkness probably weren't on their side.

"People, people. Please panic in a calm and orderly fashion!" Virgil said as he floated up to the figures level.

"Yo, what's the deal?"

Just another day in Dakota City, right? Gear leaves the crazy supervillain to Virg; he'll help get all the people out safely.
