As a child, I was always afraid. My father fled before I was born, and my mother had no interest in me. My grandmother was a terror -- she taught me the power of fear... and of chemistry. She locked me in an abandoned church, wearing clothes she'd treated with chemicals to make the crows attack me. It was a technique I would later learn and use against her -- in much stronger doses than she ever used on me. The crows were savagely violent as they tore my grandmother to pieces. She may not have been my first kill, but she was an early kill, and she was certainly one of my favorites ( ... )

The Alpha Lanterns, fresh from their duties of execution, are taken aback by the sudden appearance of black rings descending from the sky towards the corpses of the recently-executed prisoners.

Others rocket past the corpses... and head towards the hall of fallen Lanterns...

//Ch'p of H'lven... RISE!//

The ring holds together the rotting remains of the once-powerful Green Lantern. At one time, when the Corps appeared to be disbanded, Ch'p was one of the few worthy enough to still wield a ring. Now... the once great Lantern looks like a mockery, rotting flesh clinging to smashed skeletal frame.

And he would destroy those who put him in the grave.
