In Gotham City (open)

Jul 30, 2010 20:12

With a sigh, Eddie flops back onto a bench in a nice park in Gotham City. He frowns up at the night sky and leans back. He'd been in Gotham for the day and time got away from him when he was in the library. With the Robin t-shirt he scrounged out of good will that morning the cleanest thing on him, he just sits there a moment scanning the sky for ( Read more... )

The bench's other occupant, who'd somehow managed to go unnoticed until then, chuckled, exhaling a thin cloud of smoke. "Don't believe what they tell you about talking to yourself," said the blonde man with a smirk before taking a deep drag from his cigarette. "Sometimes a body's just gotta hear a voice."

He held out his pack of cigarettes to the youth, "Smoke?"

Eddie just about jumped right out of his skin and tumbled off the bench. He rolled and came up in a poor defensive stance but looked about as white as a ghost. He tried to catch his breath, looking the other man over a few times. Since he didn't seem dangerous and wasn't attacking, Eddie relaxed slowly.

"N-n-no thank you, s-sir," he said. "Not old enough t-t-to anyway."

"Never stopped me..." replied the man with a smirk before he tucked the pack back into his coat. "Calm down, mate. I was just having a smoke and a think. No danger." Well, not at the moment, anyway.

But he'd had a pretty good day recently so that probably meant some fresh horror was getting ready for him.

"How about you, then? Not old enough to smoke, out for a late-night sabbatical?"

Eddie pouted a little. "Y-you just startled me is all. Spooky city," he murmured. Slowly, he returned to where he'd been on the bench and let out a little sigh.

"J-j-j-just out, sir," he offered with a shrug. He wasn't about ready to admit to someone he just met that he didn't have anywhere to go into. Of course it hadn't clicked with him that what he'd been talking to himself about was overheard.

In the semi-quiet of Gottham's night, there is the sound of a car's tires squealing followed by the sound of metal and plastic smashing. Things are deceptively quiet then for a few beats before there is then an unexpected sound, that of a racing muscle car's engine and tires on sod. A car comes careening out of the night, a black and shadowy shape hunched over the hood as it veers back and forth wildly. For better or worse, the car appears to be heading straight for the occupied bench that Constantine and Eddie sit upon.

Constantine chuckled a bit at the teenager. "Speaking of really good pot, you could use a little, you know that?" The magician laughed a little, shaking his head, "And you don't need to recite the roster. I've met a few of..."

Squealing tires in Gotham weren't entirely uncommon. But cars coming right at a body? Damn it, he'd have to go and be actively good now, wouldn't he? Any number of black shapes with nice, high-quality motors...

He moved to give Eddie's shoulder a push, barking, "Move!" at him as he made to move away from there himself.

Eddie shot John a little half-pout. "I d-d-don't do drugs," he said. His eyes then went wide. "Y-y-you've met them? Are y-" he got cut off by the squealing tires.

It turned out to be a good thing that John pushed him as Eddie froze when he saw the car rolling at them. With a squeak, he went tumbling out of the way and ended up sprawled on the ground wondering what happened.

The car didn't look like it would stop. It goes slid across the grass thanks to the G-forces in play, which caused it to slam into the bench with the passenger side. That was not enough to stop it though, and the car's tires caught traction again before catapulting the vehicle towards a nearby tree. Just at that moment, the shadowy figure on it's hood broke free, leaping straight up like a shadow taken to life and executed a sumersault in the air over the top of the car as it passed under it. As the car crashed headlong into the tree, Batman landed in a three point sprawl in the grass and hen stood to his full 6'2" height.
