The barbecue is going well. Many people have greeted Tyler, glad he's back among the living (or at least as "living" as androids get). People reacted favorably to Garfield Logan's announcement, and generally were positive (if somewhat shocked) by Hal Jordan's ( Read more... )

Hal blinks and looks around. "What the hell...?!"

Nathan feels it too, and he immediately morphs into his metallic quantum form, but it's already too late. He gazes around at the devastation that was just suddenly there, at a loss for words.

On reflect, Ray goes small, shrinking and landing on Hal's shoulder.

"That's.... that's impossible."

"Improbable yes, but declaring something truly impossible is best left to people who haven't been in this business as long as we have." J'onn said. "Does anyone know what happened>"

The only warning they had was a high-pitched whine milliseconds before the ground explodes around them. As the dust clears, a green shield can be seen around the League, protecting them from the blast.

"Incoming!" Hal declares, dropping the shield...

...before it can be shattered by the oncoming blue and red blur.

It's definitely Jay who races towards them, but there's one thing different: the starfish affixed to his face.

A long friendship with Barry (not to mention years of riding on his shoulder) have given Ray great understanding of speedsters. He timed his leap just right and adjusted his weight, to deliver a 180 pound sock to the possessed Jay's jaw.

The blow knocks Jay back, but it doesn't even wind him. In a blur of motion, he's moving towards Ray, attempting to hit him from 30 directions at once.

Vera Black, a starfish on her face, takes aim at the heroes below, opening fire with her cybernetic cannon-arms.

Captain Atom steps in the way of Vera's fire, deflecting her fire with his metallic skin and a quantum force field.

Even with his powers, Captain Atom can feel the impact of the blasts. Her weapons are deadly.

She keeps up the weaponsfire, trying to knock him back and down.

Captain Atom decides to go on the offense, flying at Vera to throw a punch to her gut while doing his best to shrug off her blasts with his quantum field.

With a starfish latched onto his face, the clone of the clone of steel comes flying at the heroes with fists outstretched.

And is met by a punch from the Martian Manhunter.

Match is sent flying back but doesn't go far. Stopping himself in the air, he sucks in some air and then lets loose a powerful burst of freeze breath at the Martian.

When Match took a breath, J'onn, having known Superman for years, could easily tell what was coming. He slipped out of the way, firing several bursts of Martian Vision at the clone.

From up above, bolts of violet energy come flying towards the heroes from a violet power ring. The source may be an unexpected one...a young blond man with a starfish clamped onto his face...and not much else on him at all. Terry Berg, Star Sapphire in a bright, pink battle-speedo.

Superman's had a dawning to him of what's going on as he flies to meet the newest threat. Weaving in and among the violet bolts, Superman flies until he's face to face with the youngster...

...then blows a tight, concentrated blast of his arctic breath right onto the center of the starfish.

The Star Sapphire's a little surprised by there suddenly being a Superman right there judging by body language. Just as he's bringing his ring hand up, ice starts forming over the red eye of that starfish. That glowing violet aura starts to heat up in effort to counter the freezing attack.
