First Patrol

This scene takes place before the scene Early Birds.Batman was anxious though he didn't let it show. It had been a very long time since he and Tim had patrolled together, and in some ways he was worried for his young friend. Would Tim be able to keep up? Would the young man falter or fall as they flew the lines? There were just so many ( Read more... )

Timothy Drake went through a few mental exercises as he donned the brightly coloured costume of Robin. He had a definite routine, some might say ritual, that he liked to go through each time he went out on "the family business." Going through the familiar ritual made him relax and feel more at ease with himself and the likely events of the night. He could sense Batman's concern as he returned to the cave and the Batmobile. It was true it had been a while but Tim needed this, he thought Bruce did too.

Robin nodded to his partner before getting into the passenger seat. "As ready as I've ever been. Let's go."

Tim put any doubts he had to one side. Doubts could get him killed, he needed to focus on the mission and get himself back on track. There was a killer out there and Tim was going to help stop him.

Looking over at his mentor Tim saw the same grim set determination he felt within himself. "Where are we headed first?" he asked.

To say that Bruce was proud of Tim would have been an understatement. He understood how hard it was for the boy - heck - he was dealing with his own realm or hard issues. None the less, it was good to hear that familiar wound of the Batmobile's seat creak as Robin slipped in and buckled himself down.

"Old town Gotham." he replied as he then put the car into gear and applied gentle pressure to the peddle. The Batmobile didn't need a ton of encouragement to roll down the causeway towards the exit-mouth of the Batcave. It was almost like being on auto pilot, except for the first time in a long time he felt like he was the one driving again.

"I thought that we would see what Gotham's Finest might have left behind or missed at the last crime scene."

Tim took a look around the Batmobile as he settled himself in noticing a few adjustments to the control panel and display. Nevertheless, the Batmobile had not changed significantly and he felt comfortable in his usual place at Batman's side.

Robin nodded at the plan, it was a long shot to find anything after the police had been there already but they had to start somewhere. "And after that the morgue?" he asked.

"Most likely." rumbled the Bat as he gunned the car once they were out of the cave proper, letting the speed and horsepower of that magnificent machine take them out onto the winding country road that was no doubt familiar to them both. He could drive that road with his eyes closed and he was rather certain so could Robin.

Before long the two of them were cruising towards old town Gotham, their destination an old run down apartment building in one of the lowest rent parts of town. Bruce knew this part of town well - it was at one time Selina's stomping grounds, though he didn't know if she cared for these slums any more. He also didn't care to ask her.

The sleek technology and rumbling purr of the Batmobile was almost silent as he pulled up to the alley behind the building and moved to cut the engine. He turned dark eyes on the boy and said softly "We may not find anything, but if we're lucky, they were sloppy. They've been getting more and more sloppy lately - which could work to our advantage."
