A Day at the Brownstone

May 02, 2010 21:11

The Justice Society of America brownstone is a large, well kept brownstone in the heart of Manhattan. It's caretaker, Abagail "Ma" Hunkel, had decided to live here as the caretaker, happily serving the organization she had been a member of so many years ago. As she has aged, she has seen heroes come and go, heroes die and be reborn, and things go ( Read more... )

"Yes, ma'am!" Billy says, getting up quickly to get the door. He was working on some homework, still trying to get the hang of Trigonometry to keep his grade up.

Billy opened the door, not expecting anything amiss or out of the ordinary.

A head stretches in to place a kiss on Ma's cheek once the door opens, then snaps back. "Hello there. Good to see you again."

"Hello, Billy," she greets with less flair than her stretchy purple husband. "How's the family?"

"Hello, Mister and Mrs. Dibny!" Billy says, opening the door and stepping back to invite them in. The Dibny's were awesome people, and Mr. Dibny was one of the smartest men around.

And Billy might have the slightest schoolboy crush that he'd never admit to on Mrs. Dibny, too.

"Everyone's good. I hope you two had a good trip in." he smiles.

Pieter looks at Jay. "I think we have an appointment, Jay." He then looks to Ralph and Sue. "It's been good seeing you, but there is a... special case that Jay and I need to get to. Young man who wishes to join the JSA, despite living with both the western and east coast teams of the Titans. It was decided, due to his nature, that Jay and I would be best for the job."

At that point, the doorbell rings.

Billy notes that the other adults are occupied and goes to open the door again. He didn't realize so many people would be stopping by today, otherwise, he might have finished his homework earlier.

A young man, about 19, in white and black armor stands in the doorway.

"Hello. Is this the JSA Brownstone? I was told this is where it was, but magazines are known to be compulsive liars. Or was that maniacs?" The man looks off into space for a minute than snaps back. "Hi. Is this the JSA Brownstone? Wait, did I just ask that?"

"Uh, yeah, you did just sorta ask that." Billy says, raising an eyebrow at the newcomer. Something about the guy is familiar, but Billy can't place it for several seconds...and then he gets.

"You're...Shift, right?" Billy asks. He fits the description of the guy that Mary described running into not long ago. Billy's not sure how to handle this, as he doesn't know if Shift is expected.

"Hey, come in for a second. Was anyone expecting you?" Billy asks.

A beep over the communicators of many of the Justice Society members beep, allowing Alans' voice to come through.

"Alan here. Just talked with Mr. Constantine."

At almost the same time, there is a strong and rather impolite knock at the door.

Obsidian perked up slightly as the comm beeped and the door was knocked on. The weaver of the ShadowLands glanced to the others and quickly sank down so that he was just a shadow on the floor. While someone else handled the comm, Obsidian slid onto the walls and sent a shadow to peek onto the other side of the door to see who was there.

It sure as hell isn't the Tooth Fairy.

With one punch, the doors burst open, and Grundy stands there, snarling.

Gentleman Ghost flew through the many walls and ceilings of Dodds Mansion, not seeming to have a specific location he was going to.

Todd stayed on the Gentleman Ghost's tail, phasing through things just as easily as the ghost.

"You're not getting away, Craddock!" he called.

"Oh dear. I believe I have a tail," Craddock calls over his shoulder.

"Oh, I remember this! I had a delightful time with that scheme!" Craddock exclaimed as he passed an image that was familiar to him.

Obsidian glanced at the image as he passed it.

"What're you after, Craddock? I doubt you're here for a trip down memory lane."

Gentleman Ghost flies through the floor, tearing out quickly as if to say either the bomb has been planted or something hellish has been unleashed.

"You all should be following me. They stopped the bomb."

Obsidian wasn't far behind Gentleman Ghost, phasing through the floor. He gives a quick wary glance to the ghost before sending a concussive shadow-blast at the first villain still attacking a teammate. He may have been unsure about Craddock but he certainly didn't want the rest of the villains escaping.

It may not have been the way they wanted it to be, but they were beaten.

And they were not going to give up. On a signal, the barely conscious Icicle managed to make a dome of thick ice around the Injustice Society members. Within the protection...

...a purple flash engulfs the group. A huge man in golden armor and spewing purple energy appears.

And instant later, they are all gone.
