Meanwhile, on Ysmault...

Ysmault is a blasted wasteland. Nothing lives on its surface any longer. Not since the Manhunters, the Guardians' disloyal robot police force, destroyed the sector in an apparent moment of insanity, leading to both the creation of the Green Lantern Corps and the Empire of Tears, which set itself against the Guardians. When the Empire fell, only ( Read more... )

Blinking his eyes open, Sinestro is immediately disoriented. He has no idea where he is.. or why he might be trussed up like a turkey ready for slaughter. Dark eyes move about the ritual grounds as he tries to orient himself. THis is bad. Very bad. But he doesn't let his worries to the surface to be seen - that would show fear and that is not what he wants right now.

"Awaken, Sinestro, and face your fears made flesh!
Prepare yourself, and ready your blood to refresh
the rituals that will foretell the beyond!
Don't struggle so. You'll not escape from your bond."

He smiles, his eyes more insane than Sinestro last saw them -- just before the Sinestro Corps War, when the Korugarian stole the Manhunters away.

"Ah, Sinestro, you have finally awakened," came the deep, guttural voice of Atrocitus as Sinestros eyes are able to focus. Atrocitus callously holds a crippled member of the Sinestro Corp in his large claws as he stares straight at Sinestro.

"Look around you and see the wonderful destruction your beloved 'corps' have left. The stinging hatred that has come from your war against the Green Lanterns. you calim to fight their injustices, but all you do is create more. Many of my corp are victims of yours. But now they burn with the rage of the red light. They find solace and power in the deep seated hatred you have inspired in them."

In an instant, the corp member that had been mewling in Atrocitus' large hand was brought in full view of Sinestro. Then came a swift movement, and the loud crack as said members skull splintered on a rock at Sinestros feet. Blood and brain fluids began leaking out and Atrocitus began spreading out the gore in a meaningful (if entirely incomprehensible) way.

Malvolio watches carefully, hoping to learn what he can.

Sinestro tries to keep from gasping as his corps member is turned into little more than gore upon a stone. He has to struggle to keep his own mastery of fear and the fear he wishes to inspire in others, to keep from giving in to the Red Lantern's wishes. Sinestro is determined to not feel fear from this man or any other.

"Oh Atrocitus," Sinestro says, his tone dripping, "You think that I will be impressed by theatrics and threats? You think that I am afraid of pain or death? I am fear, Atrocitus. Admit it. Despite your rage, you fear me too."

"No, no, fear is your color. Much like how will was once yours as well. But it is not to bring forth the color within you that I butcher your corpsmen. I simply use what my rage, combined with the ancient secrets of the Empire of Tears, show me, in our way of calling to the universe for aide," Atrocitus says, not even looking up and he continues to manipulate the intestines of the dead creature in front of him. He is intently staring at...something within the entrails.

"...and the universe responds in kind. The red light may overpower the other members, but it gives me strength and clarity, to see through your lies and fears."

The gore begins to rearrange itself in a manner that is obvious to Sinestro. It pools in a shape not unlike a humanoid being, but there is a distinct feature that no one watching can deny.

"The universe favors the red more than the yellow today, fearmonger. The universe has revealed to me your daughter."

The blood outside of the symbol of the female also begins to coagulate, and within it comes images of small figures flying. Although the figures are hard to make out, around them is an unmistakable symbol: it is the round circle and straight bars of the Green Lantern Corp. Another symbol begins to take shape as well, round with straight lines not unlike the Green Lantern but with additional lines making a rounded circle beyond the central one.

"We are about to have guests, Malvolio. Red lanterns, you will soon have your chance to turn your rage against another being. Hide yourselves in the blood pool just before our central battery We shall make ourselves hidden until the lanterns arrive. I do not recognize this second symbol, so be ready for anything," Atrocitus' sharp voice bellows from his position in front of Sinestro.

"If these lanterns include your former student, I will use his blood to ensure that I find and destroy all who threaten the universe when the Blackest Night comes to pass."
