Debriefing

Jun 30, 2008 12:17

It had been several months since the Outsiders went into Cuba to save the nation from Kobra and his minions.  Several months since they found out that they had violated a direct order from the government to do so.  Not that they would have known that at the time ( Read more... )

"It's the government," Chimp replies simply. His expression explains his prediction.

"They'll want to remind us they're in charge," Caleb notes evenly, still privately sore that they forced him to leave his Desert Eagle at the security desk.

"Posturing aside, though, I don't see them being too irate. Else, why would they have waited all these months?" He still has his stones on him, though, because irate or not, Caleb refuses to be unarmed this close to so many DEO agents. It's the sort of mistrust that working along side them tends to generate.

"Unless they were getting their ducks in a row to find loopholes they can harass us through."

He's so chipper.

"Very possible." Sand says as the group comes to the door. "Hank, remember, no powers, their anti-psi measures are top notch. Besides...we're all on the same side, right?" He smiles, then knocks before walking through the soon-to-be opened door.

The President smiles. He's spent a lifetime dealing with metahumans, dating all the way back to his boyhood friendship with one Clark Kent ( ... )

"Beyond that," Pierce adds, "there have been statutes in place since shortly after the Cuban Missile Crisis forbidding citizens of the United States to go into Cuba, the same statutes that outlined the trade embargoes currently in place. The mere fact that most of your team was on Cuban soil...Presidential edict or no...is a violation of federal law. And thanks to Kobra and his vanity, the fact that you were on Cuban soil was broadcast to the world."

"As you may have guessed, there are reasons beyond simple law matters that certain factions are pushing this issue. Are you aware of a group known as the Great Ten?"

"Not much beyond them being China's answer to the Justice League," Trevor says, relaxing inwardly, if not outwardly. Pierce may be a politician now, but the fact that he's worn the spandex means that he at least has some idea of what the job entails.

"What does that have to do with Cuba, though?"

"More than you think." Pierce says. "When you went in, it was everything the UN could do to keep the Great Ten out of Cuba. Now there's rumblings overseas about something cooking up between nations called the Freedom of Power treaty. It's a coalition between nations stating that only the metahumans of member nations would be permitted to enter the country, and that anyone else would be considered in violation of their respective national laws. So far, China, Russia, Bialya, North Korea and Kahndaq are rumored to be the founding five."

"Hey kid," Ollie grinned as he stepped into the room. "Willing to partner the old man to get a dictator outta power?" He nodded to the rest of the group.

Sand looks at the veteran hero. Then turns to the assembled politicans. "Obviously I have no issues with Green Arrow's qualifications, but given the last time he set foot into Costa Linda...coupled with his entrance statement...if the goal is solely to rescue the Mother of Champions, I can't have a member on my team that's going to openly and willfully deviate from the plan."

She really wishes he wasn't going to be roped into the stupid Bones tricks, but this is Robin Hood and there's no way he'd pass on payback.

"Hey, Old Man." She's smiling wolfishly. "Welcome to the party. They'll be plenty of butt kick to be had."

He can probably still remember the time when she was this straight-laced worry wart 19 year old who minutes before discovered she could take a hit from a semi-truck and have it be just bruise. It was good news to Ollie, who was beat up and playing in traffic at the time.

"Mr. Queen is well aware of the parameters of the mission. Because of the kerfluffle caused by his last incursion into Costa Linda, we're offering him and his the same "we'll go away" deal. If he decides to get froggy down there...I'd highly recommend he not get caught." Pierce says plainly.

The second the door shuts, Sand looks to Brainwave, points to his head, and then covers his eyes. Brainwave will know this as the signal to mindblind the team from anything else trying to poke in. "Lets get out of here." Sand then simply says.
