They only call him for the strange and unusual anymore. A warehouse blown to matchsticks in such an expert way with no damage to the rest of the area qualifies. When they find teeth in the shrapnel GCPD starts wondering what the joke is - because this seems like some evil joke with a punchline no one sane wants to explore.
With care, he moves a splinter between his his gloved fingers and frowns.
Dick smiled gently at Sandy's sleeping form, watching her little chest rise and fall for several minutes until he was certain she was out-cold. She slept through the night once she was down unless something extreme happened. Once he was satisfied she was, he went to the kitchen and put on a pot of coffee, knowing that Barbara would be hard at work right about now.
It was nearly time for him to begin patrol, but he didn't want to leave Babs alone without coffee during the night. Soon enough, Dick appeared at the door to her station with hot coffee and a banana muffin. He knocked, giving her a moment to acknowledge him and silence her mic in case she was mid conversation.
She's frowning, and obviously waiting for him. "Regular patrol might want to wait. Warehouse fire reported in Newark." That's not unusual. The next bit is. "They called Dad in." The elder Gordon only gets called from retirement if something in the case is obviously "off." Having him called in from the get-go is an extremely bad sign.
"I'm on it. Midget is down for the night. I'll be back before sunrise." he says, crossing the room in three quick strides to kiss her. "Love you."
He turns and heads for the elevator to get down to the parking garage. He hops on his bike, kicks it to life. links the GPS with Oracle's computer, and heads out into the night toward Newark, ready to help his father-in-law in any way possible.
He gets into traffic, then hits the freeway and kicks in the throttle, headed for the location of the warehouse.
He stops the bike a mile from the warehouse and kills the engine, opting to make the last of the trip on foot. As soon as he can spot Jim Gordon, he'll set about getting into position to get his attention. He also takes note of the number of uniforms he sees in the area, and tries to determine if anyone's out of place.
Whoever did this could still be in the area, watching their handiwork.
Nightwing gets back on his bike, guns the engine and takes off, heading back to Bludhaven. He needed to get to work on finding out who died tonight in the explosion. The sooner he figured that out, the quicker he could start determining what Jason is after.
He's so deep in his current thought process that Barbara's call takes him by surprise for a moment. He answers a moment later trying to take most of the steel out of his voice.
"It's Jason." Nightwing says, certain that the name alone covers the level bad they were discussing.
"Dead bodies. Meteline. Tonight, he blew up at least two people in the same way he was killed, Oracle. I need to find out who this warehouse belonged to, who worked in it and what they were doing. But Jason wasn't paid to do this.
I'm sensing it was personal." he says, rocketing back to Bludhaven at top speed.
"No. I told your father not to contact Batman or Robin. Tim can't handle Jason and Bruce is still crucifying himself over Jason's death." Nightwing says, his tone brooking no argument.
"We'll find Jason and I'll bring him and get him the help he needs. We've got to fix whatever those people did to him." Nightwing says.
Two Days Later....dark_knight_28January 17 2010, 05:00:06 UTC
The streets of Bludhaven were quiet tonight, which Nightwing didn't like, especially when he knew a madman could be out there among them. Two solid nights of searching hadn't turned up any information on Red Hood thus far, and there hadn't been anything from Commissioner Gordon, either. He perched among the stone gargoyles of St. Anthonio's church and watched the streets, trying to work out more information in his head on where Jason could be. He and Babs were on the case but he needed more eyes on the ground, without having to alert Bruce, Tim, or Roy about what was going on.
"Oracle, please open a secure channel to Batgirl." he speaks into his comm-link, waiting for confirmation. Seconds later, Oracle gives him the signal to start speaking.
"Batgirl, this is Nightwing. I need your help...and this can't go beyond us. Robin and Batman are to be kept out of the loop." he says.

"I'll be there as soon as I can," Batgirl's voice comes over the comm, a little fuzzy. "Just...tell me where to meet you." As she wouldn't be able to make out the coordinates, her reading skills not being fully up to par.

"St. Anthonio's Church. One hour." he says, and the connection ends.
He waits for her on the rooftop, going over what he'll say to her in his head. When she arrives, he is looking out toward the water.
"Batman and Robin can't know about this, Cassandra. Red Hood is back, and he's already killing. I need you to help me find him, but if you run across him, call me. Day or night, it doesn't matter what time.
We need to find Jason and get him off the streets as soon as possible." Nightwing says.

"If the situation worsens....we might have no choice but to alert the others," she says, fingering a batarang in one hand.
