He moves his hands to convey a sentence; I shook my head, a sign that I didn’t understand.

He moves his hands again, slowly; I shook my head again.

He sighed and tries once more.

I can get the sense of two people struggling to communicate. I like the build-up of how hard the communication is until finally what needs to be said happens.
