A toddler just fell face first on the grassy knoll while chasing a stubborn ball. Yoochun’s calloused fingers instantly click away, stilling spikes of time, stacking them away in his worn out camera. He’s not after the fall itself. That would be too shallow and he’s a man of depth. He’s after the moment immediately in pursuit, the tiny fraction of a second that if you take a glimpse somewhere else you’d surely miss.
It’s the time between the fall and a wail. The perplexity striking across a child’s countenance that decides whether you’ll be hearing a shrill cry or witness him uneventfully stand.
It may seem apathetic but Yoochun loves seeing that. That same quality that sooner or later a child loses, forever outgrown. The ball rolls near Yoochun’s feet and as he picks it up, the kid decides against crying and walks over to Yoochun instead. With a mumbled thank you, the boy leaves to blissfully play with his ball, the fall and decision to get up buried in the past.
Yoochun smiles sadly looking over the pictures he just took. That moment, it’s something he wants to get back. Maybe, given the chance, he too would stand..
